Hi folks

since they introduced the new mixer in FLstudio with the fancy routing options, I can't figure out how to mute the main mixer channel(s) and listen only to the output from a send channel. It used to be that you could just solo the send channel, but now when you do that no audio is actually sent to the send channel so there's nothing to listen to. Does that make sense? I did work out how to do it once before but I've forgotten.

I would post this on the looptalk forum but I don't have the cookie on this computer, and figured the folks at KVR are more knowledgeable about this stuff

If you solo the send channel, you can then left-click on any channels that are being sent to it (click on the green dot)

thanks for the reply, but what you said means that as well as hearing the send channel I'll hear whichever channel is being sent - when I just want to hear the send channel alone. It was easy with the old mixer but can't figure it out with this one...

Click the little post/pre button, near the delay box for each channel.

You need to put your send into pre-fader mode, then you can simply drag down the volume of the channel and listen to only the send.

EDIT: duh.. that doesn't actually work. Looks like the post/pre thing is for the delay.

EDIT2: a work around is to use the Fruity Send plugin.

When I send frmo one channel into another (mainly with drums) I disable the connection to the main master out. So that when you solo the send channel and click on the sent channel, you only hear the sent channel through the send channel (if you left click on the the send channel so that the green light goes off, you hear nothing.

Again I suck at explaining things!!!

..which is why I still use v5.. what if you're using ridiculously complicated routings between mixer channels? You're expected (afaik) to solo not only the "receiving" buss, but all those that are routed to it.. kinda defeats the purpose of soloing a group buss to begin with

Gotta say, I totally love the fruit, but the much-touted new mixer kinda sucks, imo. (of course, I could be wrong about its limitations - in which case, feel free to point me on the right path).

Yeah I have only used it since V6 so I didn't know previous versions. Also I mainly use for separating drums out into individual hits/tracks.

I get what you mean about having lots of tracks into one, I am sure that will be addressed, if it isn't already possible somehow.

For all I know it may well be possible - I have not spent a whole lot of time nutting out v6 "features" as I'd rather finish all my v5 music first..
Judging by a few trial runs it seems like you've got to solo all tracks being routed, but like I said I may be mistaken

It should be possible by allowing the user to select pre or post fader. Though using solo will mute the sending channel so.. hmm, it gets a bit more tricky. Maybe there should be a "pseudo solo" that instead of muting, intelligently drops all main faders to zero, thuss muting them but still allowing pre fader sends to work.

1) The only way I know of using the sends are real pre fader sends is to use the send plugin. Otherwise they act like buses. Seems kind of stupid that they have it set up this way. They should have just kept the sends as real sends.

2) if you have multiple tracks routed to another track as a bus and you want to solo that bus hold alt and right click. Now the bus and all tracks routed too it are solo.

This is my biggest problom w regs to missing features in FLS.. Its like they tease you with that pre/post button only to find out its for PDC...

the only important difference that caused the problem I described in the first post, is that in the new mixer, by soloing a channel it not only mutes the output of the other channels, but actually blocks the routing to the send channels too - which it shouldn't imho. This wasn't a problem in previous versions

Which is why I still use FL5 as well. The reasoning behind the way FL handles solo is nuts. I've been involved in these discussions many times at Looptalk and here at KvR. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a logical change.

Well if Gol reads this perhaps he could consider implementing a fix to this problem in the next release - because previous versions were different, I suspect the current problem was not intentional.
