And as usual, BONES resorts his predictable stance, projecting his own prejudices rather than any actual knowledge or factual information. He doesnt like it, so its not good, and of course, everyone who's tried will agree with him, wont they.BONES wrote:Well, I am going to have to get our new Maya AE to teach me the basics but I realised a long time ago, when I first got my hands on the PLE, that I will always be better with Max and will always fall back on it for serious work. Functionally I see absolutely no advantage in bothering, there is absolutely nothing I can do in one that can't also be done in the other, the major difference is how much easier most things are in Max, something that anyone with experience in both will attest to.
The fact that most large animation and film companies rely on Maya is an irrelevance. The fact that large numbers of games companies have switched from MAX to Maya has no bearing. None of those people would be changing for any good reason, let alone 'experience'.
Like I already said, I know quite a lot of people in the games and animation industries, and they dont concur with BONES assertion. People with experience in both dont attest to his claim, and a lot of them have moved to Maya because its easier to use, and more powerful.
Basically its clear that BONES doesnt know that much about Maya at all, and his viewpoint on the UI is limited by his ignorance of it. Same as everything, really.

Ofcourse the Fl Studio skin looks gay, all other applications look way more professional and not like a toy like FL Studio does.
in Reason it is way easier with the scrool bar
Why don't you just switch to Reason instead of nagging about your ugly skin, cellphone & your holidays like a big sissy? All cellphones have themes etc and this expensive music program in that you want spend many hours to make good music has just this ugly skin, unbelievable

Certainly no more relevant than the fact that 80% of games are made with 3DS Max or that the vast majority of broadcasters also use Max. The games industry employs consderably more animators than the film industry.whyterabbyt wrote:And as usual, BONES resorts his predictable stance, projecting his own prejudices rather than any actual knowledge or factual information. The fact that most large animation and film companies rely on Maya is an irrelevance.
And quite a few notable ones have switched back to Max after realising that they made a poorly informed decision. The fact that large numbers of games companies have switched from MAX to Maya has no bearing.
Not always. e.g. Chrome Studios, one of the largest games employer in Australia , switched to Maya about 3 years ago, against all good advice, because their artists were adamant they would be able to do a better job. Last year they upgraded all their Max licenses and went back to using it, citing their experiment a total disaster. It seems their artists wanted to learn Maya so that they could all piss off and work on films.None of those people would be changing for any good reason, let alone 'experience'.
I don't know a single person who would agree with that statement and, unlike you, I have talked to literally thousands of people in the games, film and broadcast industries. I have spent much of the past three and a half years travelling around demonstrating products to them, training them and doing my best to get feedback from them on both our products and our competitors. Not once have I ever heard anyone who knows both say that Maya was easier to use than Max. But I have certainly heard the same uninformed, nay ignorant, viewpoint that Maya must be better because it gets used in all these really cool films. It never occurs to these poor, dumb bastards that 90% or more of film pipelines are Linux based and that 3DS Max only runs on Windoze. Its an amateur's mistake, one I'd fully expect from an ignorant c**t like you. ANd that is, of course, ignoring that 3DS Max is the same price it has been since it was launched in 1995 whereas both its high-end competitors have dropped their pants on pricing in an effort to compete. And we're not talking a few hundred bucks off, we're talking price drops of around 70%. I'm sure that's the hallmark of a successful product, right? That and the fact the company was sold for a song soon after and two years later was acquired by its main competitor. Yes, all signs of a truly great product.Like I already said, I know quite a lot of people in the games and animation industries, and they dont concur with BONES assertion. People with experience in both dont attest to his claim, and a lot of them have moved to Maya because its easier to use, and more powerful.
I don't spend my life cloistered in the closets of academia, I actually travel the world and see, with my own eyes, what applications get used the most for which kind of work and I get to ask the people responsible for the decisions why they make the choices they do. So before you go taking advice from the people you work with, you should be mindful of the old adage "those who can, do, those who cant teach". Its very obvious to me every time I go to a college or university.

Look at Adobe Audition's grey color scheme and compare it to FL. Much nicer IMO, because its brighter and sort of blue-ish. Easier on the eyes, prettier to look at, and doesn't try to look like some interface to a cheesy videogame. The skin to FL needs to be customizable, that would make the best product.

Does Audition retain Cool Edit's ability to change the colours? If not, then I'd have to say that Audition's GUI is awful. CE2k was really slick but Adobe had to take it and turn it into a dog's breakfast for some reason.

As usual you don't pay any attention to what you're told, do you? I wasnt talking about people in academia. I specifically said people in the games and animation industries. Was that just too f**king hard for you to follow? I'll repeat it in case it was difficult. The games and animation industries. That includes folk working for the biggest games companies around, on animations for TV series; all sorts of real-world work for real-world companies. Folk like the lead CG artist on one of the biggest game series of the decade. A BAFTA award winner. Folk who've given presentations at SIGGRAPH and Annecy.BONES wrote:I don't spend my life cloistered in the closets of academia, I actually travel the world and see, with my own eyes, what applications get used the most for which kind of work and I get to ask the people responsible for the decisions why they make the choices they do.
You done any of that? Or dont you just hand out brochures?
I think someone who was given the position of CGI supervisor on a full-length feature by Universal would be in the 'can' category and just a little bit more clued in than you. But then you're just a glorified salesman yourself, arent you? You cant do, or teach. Oh wait...So before you go taking advice from the people you work with, you should be mindful of the old adage "those who can, do, those who cant teach".
...you do training? By-the-numbers, follow-the-dots teaching, without the hard bit of trying to workj out whether people learned anything or not, no doubt. Guess you're in the 'can't do' category yourself, then... but without the benefit of actually having been in the games, film, or animation industries.I have spent much of the past three and a half years travelling around demonstrating products to them, training them
I mean, the stuff you come up with... pure unadulterated nonsense...
BONES, thats the dumbest f**king attempt to turn the facts on their heads that Ive ever seen from you. Its so f**king retarded you should hang yourself in shame. But I have certainly heard the same uninformed, nay ignorant, viewpoint that Maya must be better because it gets used in all these really cool films. It never occurs to these poor, dumb bastards that 90% or more of film pipelines are Linux based and that 3DS Max only runs on Windoze.
Lets get this straight. You're actually claiming that film pipelines decide on the OS they're going to use first, and then base their choice of modelling and animation application of on that? What utter bullshit. What a f**king blinkered, bullshitting dumbass.
I mean you do know film companies generally dont use the Maya (or MAX) renderer, at all, right? Did you know you dont need to use Maya to render scenes modelled and animated in Maya? Or is MAX that limited that you cant use it with any other renderer? Sheesh, that might explain why its dying.
Anyways, it is true that part of the film pipeline is often Linux based, namely the render farm. But that's totally distinct from the systems which modellers and artists will use to create scenes, and modellers and animators dont unilaterally work on Linux systems, not by a long chalk; Windows is far more common (presumably because of better support for the highest-end graphics cards, and because support tools like Deep Paint, and Z-brush, and Photoshop are primarily Windows based, as well). There's no interdependency between the use of Linux systems and what gets used to model and animate. At all. The idea is laughable. Your further interpretation of that is just f**king deranged.
There's absolutely no need to use Linux-based modelling software just because that's what's used in your rendering pipeline; the whole suggestion is just stupid. If film companies thought MAX was better, they'd frigging use it, and run their pipeline on Windows. But they dont, they use Maya. They dont invest in their animation pipeline based on the OS they're going to run, and then decide what apps are available after that; thats insane. If you actually wanted to try thinking for three seconds instead of rehashing the same old tired krap, you'd have realised what utter shite you're talking.
Have you ever been involved in setting up an animation pipeline? Do you even know someone who has?
Yup, you're an ignorant c**t and an amatuer all right. Its an amateur's mistake, one I'd fully expect from an ignorant c**t like you.
