Voxengo needs a freeware compressor.

I love most of the MDA plugins - good sounding, simple but useful and very easy on the cpu - but I find the dynamics plugin to be really horrible sounding tbh...Michael Benjamin wrote:just as a sidenote:

There is a much better freeware compressor IMHO, the MjCompressor from smartelectronix too (by Magnus, nyquist fame).
It has no custom GUI nor gain reduction meters (which make it a bit tricky as it can be EXTREMELY transparent) but work with it a while and I guarante you fantastic results.
It's on my "best digital compressors top 10" list and this is counting all the hardware I have too!
Cheers!

yeah, for mastering puposes it might be useful - but as a track insert it's imo useless due to being a Magnus plugin (it looks as if Magnus' main challenge when coding is to make simple plugins which waste as much cpu resources as possible

lest we forget: vanilla compressor

indeed - usable quality and low on the cpu!Midiworks wrote:http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1144.html

fantastic sound and still uses only about half as much cpu as MJCompressor which imo doesn't sound as good and is surely by far not not as flexible...

Oh yes, vanilla compressor is fantastic as well. I do however use MjCompressor mainly on tracks. I don't think it uses too much resources but then again, I never check how much a plugin uses CPU but rather how it sounds. If I run into trouble I simply upgrade my computer setup.. err.. right.. not!
.. I see your point jens.
EDIT: Just realised how much MjCompressor actually uses CPU juice!
It's more than 6 times that of vanilla compressor! Shees! ..but it DOES sound bloody awesome!
EDIT2: nope, sorry that was not correct. MjCompressor uses 6% cpu on my Athlon XP 3200+ where vanilla uses 4%. Somehow the vanilla compressor doesn't seem to work in latest FL Studio beta, hence it showed 1% of cpu usage.
Cheers!

but also don't forget the free VBaudio StripTool V1 - incredibly low on the cpu and very good sounding (but not many controls)

Yeah, that thing is great - really good top end on the EQ too. But the worst controls ever; up is down, left is right, etc. Could really use an update.jens wrote:but also don't forget the free VBaudio StripTool V1 - incredibly low on the cpu and very good sounding (but not many controls)

most of the synth-edit made delays (and a few others as well) also use that much on my machine b.t.w. while some hand-coded delays use less than 1%
these differences are significant and can't be mentioned often enough - but on the other hand you are right of course: in the end it's the sound that counts most...

right-click the controls - they are totally user-definablebduffy wrote: But the worst controls ever; up is down, left is right, etc. Could really use an update.
