I really dig the Waldorf PPG Basis funtion (combined with the various keyb. modes), and would love to see that as a plugin, or even better if i could manage to build it in my modular.
The info on the technique is a little vague tho, so does anyone know if there is a plugin doing something similar? Or perhaps a place where i could find a little more info on the matter?

Thanks in advance,

Something like that?

Waldorf as a company doesn't exist anymore it seems, the download links are dead. Steinberg took them over:

What does that "basis" knob above the volume do exactly?

The basis knob set the amount of degree for the voices to randomly alternate their pan positions. And with the keyb. mode's in addition to that, makes a sweet stereo reult.

I am trying to build such a thing in my modular now however, it should be possible. Still it would be great with such a VST plugin, if possible.

I wouldnt know, never tried it. Im talking about the above function as a vst effect tho, not a VSTi.

As part of a SynthEdit /SynthMaker plugin, it's achievable ofcourse...

As an effect only you can't do it. You can't change the panning of individual notes without also changing the positions of notes that are already playing. You have to be "inside" the synth to do that.

Yes i understand, hence why something similar would be nice. I've no idea what this similar would be tho. :D

Start a new subject on "Random panning" (or change thread title) to get more focussed attention...

I've not tried it, but something like this? It's even called Basispan.

No effect can do this properly. The easiest way is to create two synth tracks, panned to opposite directions. Then split up your midi data between both tracks. Its a hassle and it uses extra cpu but there isn't an alternative...

NOT TRUE!
The PPG Wave was discontinued years ago. Steinberg only made the distribution back in the day (hence the name "Steinberg Waldorf Edition").

Waldorf is back on track, recently released a hardware synthesizer module and soon the Terratec Komplexer, where they were influenced, too. So it's not true that Waldorf doesn't exist anymore. However, no sign of reviving old VSTi's yet.

Waldorf is back ye, and the reviving doesnt have to be in form of a VSTi. ;)

To get things straight, the random panning is really not a problem, its the whole process of combining the panning along with the keyb.modes, wich leads to that juicy stereo field that im after.

I have something goin on in my modular wich should simulate this behaviour when im done with it tho..

i've been wondering all the time, where the komplexer is. terratec? hm, i didn't see any demo for this on their site, but i own a demo.

your "modular"? What's that exactly?? There are so many modular synths... Knowing which might help this issue.
