I think the midi learn problem is in synths with a lot of parameters which dont have internal midi features. Trying to find one in the list can suck, so being able to turn a knob on the gui and have it show up as a parameter may be useful. Im sure this sort of thing will be availible

Slightly off topic, but I hope XT2 comes with some good templates to show off all of these features! With a "placeholder" component (i.e. something with an audio and MIDI in/out which could be renamed "Insert bass synth here", "put drum synth here" etc.) there wouldn't even be a problem with everyone using different VST's.

and then: EXT!
LOL, your impressions and experiences are exactly the same as mine. Cubase = WTF? How does this thing work?
Sonar = awful synth rack, two tracks for every midi sound???
Live = horrid piano roll. No linked/ghost clips???? WTF are they thinking?

I'm slowly finding the warts in EXT also, but at least its still an indie project so our feedback really counts. Plus the modularity is so F$cking cool.

abi, after reading your post i think i should give xt a try. the only question i have is if xt comes with a sample-player - i don't want to buy kontakt or alike... i'm using renoise for the last couple years (it's the best tracker around), and its awesome, but its a pain if you want to insert details - you have to increase the the pattern resolution and such. so i'm starting to look for alternatives.. the great thing about renoise is you can just load a sample, cut a bit out of it, loop it and you already have some sound. playing sample forward/backward or the sample-offset is awesome. does XT has inbuild features you can do with samples (like sample-offset)? sorry for asking this stupid questions but any reply is appreciated! thanks!

Yes,

it has an inbuilt sampler component with sample offset, reverse, filters, envelopes, modulators and all that stuff.

The sampler is excellent, pretty much unparalleled for modulation IMO and has good SF2 support. It has some kinks at the moment, but Jorgen has said these will be addressed in a version of XT2.

It could use some more refined user interface thought. There is also a possibility that XT2 might have build in a synth too.

I think that's a definite, isn't it?

Yeah, a do-nothing might actually be useful, especially after we get per-line levels.
