I was able to download and install the v8 demo, in a directory separate from the SE version. I did snag the Samplitude help file from the demo. Unfortunately, no demo project. Oh well, life is for learning...

I uninstalled the Samplitude demo, using manual mode just so I could see what was being removed, and the demo uninstalled cleanly, apparently without disturbing my SE install.

It would have been so much easier to just include it in the install, or provide as a separate download. And they couldn't have fit a demo into a 30 MB download? Geez, reaper fit a demo in, and their download's still under 2 MB.

At first I thought that it was just a mistake that the Sequoia help file was included with Samp SE, but now that I have the Samp V8 help file from the demo, I see that there is a lot of stuff about Sequoia in there too. I know the programs share the same engine, but it seems to me that Sequoia is mainly an editor for radio broadcast use, or maybe mastering, and not a multitracker. Are the various Samplitudes really that similar to Sequoia in features and interface? So similar that one help file suits all? But actually the Samp V8 demo help file does seem more appropriate than the one that came with Samp SE, so maybe it _is_ a mistake. Anyway, Samplitude documentation seems to be rather an afterthought at best.

I am still wondering why Magix decided to give SE away for free, because it doesn't seem like they really want anybody to actually use it. But if people don't use it because they can't figure it out, they sure aren't going to upgrade to a real version, especially since SE is a pretty real version anyway. It's puzzling.

It _is_ a cool program, and I am sure I will figure it out, except that I hear Reaper calling.

Well, not totally free... on the newsstand in Canada, CM magazine costs about CDN$23, including taxes. (But of course you get a magazine with it, and some other demos and sound samples too

). Samplitude SE is also being sold as a download from their website for US$49.

I expect that SE will also get bundled with some soundcards. And even at $49, it's a pretty good value, and may be all the host that some people will need. So I should probably stop complaining about the $23.

Yeah, in the U.S. CM costs $15. I buy it every once in a while, for samples and freebies, but I actually went to three bookstores loooking for this one. I was very curious about Samplitude from discussions on the Reaper forum. It's not free, but it is a really good deal.
