i am recording audio in Tracktion 2 for wave source material to load into Kubik...T2 won't get micro enough, i'm looking to be able to get down to single cycles....i've got Wavelab Lite as part of a software bundle, but it doesn't seem to be able to audition small selections as loops (not trying to set loop points per se, just check how clean they will loop), and the selection at that level seems weird, i can't seem to be able to grab exactly what i want...i did a search andAudacity seems worth a try (Windows btw)..they offer vers. labeled "1.2.4 stable" and "1.3.0" for advanced users, not sure what they are refering to...first, does Audacity seem like a good choice for my needs? (also looks like they have a pencil tool which is very useful), and is ver 1.3.0 ok, or stick with 1.2.4?

i also have the EmuX2 for sample editing...it's pretty darn good, but i don't think it alows you to save as wav files....

hey

i've use 1.2.4 for a while to trim files for web and flash stuff. 1.3 is still beta as far as i know and the new features don't seem like they'd really help you too much in this case. the trick in audacity is to hold shift down when pressing play, that turns the play button into a loop button and it's pretty easy to audition loops that way. seems like the resolution is okay for what you need, but i've also had an intermitent problem with audacity adding a tiny amount of silence at the end of a saved wav, making a file not loop properly after a save. getting down to the degree you're looking for, this may be a problem. perhaps someone else could comment on this, if it's a known bug or something more individual to my system.

You want a WAV editor. For that I use CoolEdit 2000, but that's discontinued shareware and not widely available anymore. Goldwave is also good and still available.

There are some completely free WAV editors, but I can't recall their names at the present.

Recycle would be good too - is that still available, anyone?

Yeah it is but when it is done it'll be a jump. 1.2.4 will work well enough for free for what you want. The reason they say that 1.3 is for "more advanced users" is that as it's beta it is still buggy and they do not want a bunch of new users stumbling into it and complaining when things go wrong so they point them to 1.2.4 which is pretty darn stable.

Audacity worked ok, but it was difficult to find zero crossings...i'm gonna check out some more, any recs appreciated....actually wavelab might do it (i suppose i should read the manual), but Audacity was actually better!

yeah, i wanna stick with freebees for now, or very inexpensive...

i tried Wavaosaur...it actually worked great for what i wanted to do...until i wanted to SAVE THE DAMN FILE!

EDIT: actually, Wave Pad seems to rock, i like the layout, and it has all the tools so far...i may just purchase it...

might as well check out goldwave while i'm at it....
