Two questions:
Any update on the timeline for an OSX version? (yes, I did a brief search to determine if this info was available somewhere else. Thanks for re-answering a question I am sure you get asked frequently!)

I understand that LS can record and then quickly slice and process those recordings. Is it possible to continually record into a bufffer of a specific duration, and slice and process that buffer? That is, can I play live into the buffer and have the sound instantly chopped and processed while recording new audio into that buffer (rather than creating a static audio file and then chopping that file).

That's a critical feature for the way I work. My little MSP patch does this...but it lacks a lot of other interesting features that Live Slice has...(including some stability!)

Thank you for your reply.

my guess: as soon as ohm can afford a mac which depends on the sales of the pc version (that's why i tend to promote it at the ableton live forum ;))

that's the way it works basically, only it's delayed by 1 bar or something, but it continuosly records into the buffer.
have a look at the pdfs on the site (manual and command guides), there could be some more information for you.

Well, thank you very much for the info. Yeah - I did check out the PDF, but somehow didn't grok that you don't have to stop the buffer recording to start slicing. That's cool, for sure. I'll get off my lazy butt and download the PC demo onto the machine at work.
I sure would love to see a MAC version. I would like to believe the Mac audio community would make it worth the developers time. I would surely buy it!!! Heck - I'd pay now if they'd commit to having the Mac version done in 6 months...yeah..really.

i might quote myself and add following..
this is optional, the continously recording to the buffer is the "effect" mode, you also have the option to capture some bars and hold them in the buffer while mangling..
LS is a great tool for sure and i hope ohm gets enough money to work on the mac version. i think a lot of people would buy it.

heh, actually I just bought an old used G4 - I read that osx runs perfectly well on older hardware and this old power-mac can run X-Code just fine after a RAM upgrade. Now all I need is some more time to dedicate to audio-unit development.

I too would love to see an AU version of LS! I just discovered it and I'm going to use it in my next video game project. It's exactly what I needed! :D
Does anybody have it running on the MAC with VST Wrapper? Hmm, wait a second, never mind .dll don't run on the MAC duh! I'm just going to have to use it in ACID for now.

This is great news! I'd love to have Liveslice on my ibook.

I'm right in assuming that you mac guys prefer audiounits right? I mean it's probably easier to create a VST, but then you'll need the VST wrapper.

Yes, absolutely, AU is like VST on the MAC, usuable in most applications without extra software. I look forward to it!

I don't mind as I use Live - but those that run logic will want an AU

To satisfy the largest number of people in the Mac market, you should surely consider building the AU version. If you build a VST version for Mac, people will ask you right away for an AU version.

However, if building at VST version for Mac is significantly easier for you than building an AU version, I would say that building a VST version would be in your best interest - The VST version will get alot of people excited about the product and will give you a decent idea of what the demand for an AU version will be.

I know that as a systems designer, quite a number of my customers have asked for beat slicers which allow for "intuitive, real-time methods to manipulate paramerters in a musical way". Many people seem to feel that the beat slicing products are too much "studio tools" and do not allow the user to interact with the application in a musically interesting way in real-time.

I strongly believe there is a market for LiveSlice on the Mac.

you've got my money when the mac version is released (VST or AU doesn't matter to me as I use Live)

Just to say that I'm really impressed with the demo on my PC, but I'd love to be able to chop up beats on my ibook with liveslice as well.

Heard about it via the Aphex interview, predictably enough. I'm into the tape edit style from the electro editors (eg. latin rascals, omar santana, chep nunez) and with a little bit of enveloped pitch bend, i can approximate that famous speaker destroying deck-stop sound.

oh yeah: again, vst or au, no problem

Post

i would prefer a universal binary audio unit, if thats not being too picky :p
