I cannot seem to find any info on how many computers you could have your version of Sonar installed on. I have a desktop and laptop, and it is important that I can use my laptop, Sonar, and my Korg TR. I also need it on my DAW as it's where I do the majority of my music at too. Anybody know how the license works?
We allow you to install and use SONAR on only one machine at a time.

You can install on both your desktop and your laptop provided that there is no possibility that somebody else will be running SONAR on your desktop while you're on your latop.

So my wife and I will both have to buy SONAR..... :hihi:

Well, we won't.

You can use your copy of Reaper while she is running Sonar.

I think we both prefer REAPER anyway, but thanks for the suggestion.

SONAR's customer/household friendly licence policy however seems to be the issue here. I think it's utterly bizar, but indeed - what do I care. I'm more than happy with the fastest developing DAW in audio history  and its license did cost me less than 35 euros...

actually its quite reasonable and what most companies propose with their software.....

am I not right?

Many companies only allow you to have their software installed on one machine at any given time, period. (Ever ask Microsft if it's okay to install one copy of Office or XP on more than one computer?) Cakewalk is pretty reasonable in this regard and I, for one, appreciate it.

ahhh one question, did cakewalk finally change the thing where when a different driver is selected you have to restart the program? That is totally unheard of, and pretty annoying, no offense. I have 2 soundcards with different stuff attached to them plus a podxt interface i use... would be a showstopper for me anyway ;)

Can you also load, tweak and delete VST effects in the middle of an audio recording without dropouts, clicks, pops, etc? If so that is way ahead of SONAR and more like Ableton Live.
I know in samplitude, during recording you can do nearly anything without a glitch.

what does gapless audio do again?
In ACID I can add envelopes in realtime and change effects when necessary. Loading effects takes a bit longer than in other hosts but it doesn't seem to affect the playback. I love adding envelopes with the mouse in realtime.

I know, the "gapless" audio engine was supposed to work in 4.something but it never worked on my system. I tried the v5 demo and kept having dropouts and crashes. I didn't bother upgrading which is hard not to do after staying loyal since Sonar 1.

I went back to ACID and haven't regreted it. Sonar must work well for some people but ACID is still my favourite. I'll check out the Sonar 6 demo though.

What if a burglar breaks into my house and uses Sonar on my desktop while I'm away using my laptop? Shall I turn myself in to the proper authorities? :hihi: (just kidding, couldn't resist).

It's also pretty unimportant, as long as it works. My pet peeve about Sonar's VST-support is that it makes a lousy job of organizing the plug-ins. It should at least obey the directory structure.
Once again... rename yo plugs:

fred fancysynth

So I have to admit. The better organizing of VST-plugs is one of my main reasons for upgrading.
Other stuff that made me jump: Session drummer 2 (and I REALLY hope SD1-midis work) and the vintage channel.

What I still lack in Sonar: A GOOD arpeggiator - P5-style, otherwise S6 looks very close to my dream DAW...

Just ordered upgrade to S6PE and threw in P5V2 just for the...

How about adding VST synths, opening up Rewire clients and playing within them, all with the audio engine still running "gapless" in ACID - does that work too?

Returning to the point that started this though - timestretching in Sonar 6.... what I am interested to see is whether it will be possible (in Sonar 6, with Izotope Radius) to manually move/adjust AudioSnap markers while the audio engine is running in real time, in the same way as you can manually move/adjust Live's Warp Markers while the audio engine is running in real time - without gaps in the audio.

(As for ACID, I don't know if you can manually alter the rhythmic content of audio in this way anyway, so I'm not sure why JBM brought up ACID... If you can do this in ACID, can it be done with the audio engine running without gaps - if so then it is relevant to the thread  ).

I don't really have to. I create folders instead. Fishphones,Reverb, comp etc., some plugs are still stray, but it's more than managble
