Does anyone know if theres a free soundfont to .wav convertor? If not what are the best reasonably priced sample convertors which support soundfonts? thanks

Post

Oh and also whats the difference between .sf2 and .sfArk? Im guessing the first is a standard sample/samples and the second is a collection of soundfonts?

Post

.sfark is a type of compression someone made just for soundfonts....like a .zip file, or .rar file for soundfonts..

dunno about your other question....its acytually something id like to know myself...

Post

Ah ok, thanks for the info :)

What do you mean? You can't convert a "soundfont" to "wav", they're different things. Do you mean something that will dump all the wave files inside an sf2 to your hard drive??

sf2 is the default extension for soundfonts. sfArk is a compression format, just like .zip or .rar, specificaly designed to compress soundfonts' information. You need sfArk installed to decompress it to sf2 format.

Yeah to extract all the sounds to wav sounds, i guess i could always get a soundfont player and record using some sound recording app but im guessing theres a simpler way?

Just found this -

http://www.extranslator.com/formats.html

that says it converts to wav but im guessing there might be a free app similar to this program somewhere?

What I used to do, when I used soundfonts a lot, was use Creative's Vienna soundfont editor. You can export the wave files from this program and edit them directly in a wave editor. If you're willing to pay, there is Extreme Sample Converter. Awave Studio and SoundFaction Alive come to mind as well.

Cool, and Creative's Vienna soundfont editor is free then? will google it :D

Edit - Seems to be for certain souncards or something so maybe it won't work, this is it right?

If you're not using a Creative card, it may not work. If you have Kontakt, VSampler, DirectWave or any sampler that reads soundonfts, they'll rip the waves and save them to a folder, in order to translate them.

Ok thanks :)

I used to have a free tool that could (amongst other things) automatically extract all wavs of a sf2 in one go. unfortunately I've forgotten the name..
