I'm pretty sure Justin Frankel is not particularly worried about REAPER users being very enthusiastic about the quality of the software he designed, headquest. And it's not, as far as I know, part of REAPER's policy to forbid its users to say publicly that REAPER is the DAW they have waiting for a long, long time.headquest wrote:alex zonder wrote: I'm not sure if Mr. Westner likes to see his gentle company associated with such an attitude, D-Fusion.
Well the REAPER developer has publically distanced and disassociated himself from the behaviour of you REAPER fanboys on this forum, such is the embarassment your trolling has caused him!
Sonar 6 information is available now.

There is nothing wrong in telling that you love Reaper, i like Sonar and i still don't go to other hosts update threads and say that i will pass and continue to use Sonar with a big laugh after it (This is about Sonar and not Reaper)

alex zonder wrote: Westner explained his company's policy on licenses, and I think that policy sucks completely. Microsoft and other companies might have the same policy? Well, it only means software business sucks even more. The only justification for this 'policy' is commercial, financial greed.
Hmmm......does not Cockos Incorporated have essentially the same license policy?
So what is your point?
Purchasing a license for REAPER v1.x entitles the user to use, on one computer at a time, past and future versions of REAPER up to and including v1.99.

As opposed to:
We allow you to install and use SONAR on only one machine at a time.

I guess corpoarate greed is contagious, even if you already have tens of millions and don't have 80 plus employees to care about.
FWIW, Cakewalk has one of the most liberal copy protection schemes in the audio software business. No PACE, no dongle and you can install on multiple computers (typically your desktop & laptop), as long as it is, for your own personal use. I have SONAR 5 installed on both my desktop & laptop and it did not cost me a dime extra and it is completely legit.

Dont go bringing facts into it, Billy. Remember, this thread isnt about Sonar6 any more, its about how much alex needs to validate his own personal choice by proving how much better it is than everyone elses.billybk1 wrote:Hmmm......does not Cuckos Incorporated have essentially the same license policy?

Again, urock came up with REAPER - and that word appears to light a fire in any thread, even if it is a REAPER threadD-Fusion wrote:I am just aswering to your Reaper trolling, and nothing elsealex zonder wrote:-What is this? I'm just wondering what you guys think of a license policy like SONAR's (or REAPER's

So what do people do in a situation where one of the band members is recording a guitar part, while someone else is writing a guitar part?alex zonder wrote:I'm just wondering what you guys think of a license policy like SONAR's. Oh yeah, that's right. Use two guitars.
So what do you do when you've got your secretary writing a letter, and 100 other people in the typing pool also preparing documents?
Oh yeah, just buy one copy of Word and Windows, and install them on all your company PCs, aint that right?

OK, if there's no intention to adress a common issue I'll leave it.whyterabbyt wrote:So what do people do in a situation where one of the band members is recording a guitar part, while someone else is writing a guitar part?alex zonder wrote:I'm just wondering what you guys think of a license policy like SONAR's. Try to be a bit more relaxed guys and a bit less hostile. Enjoy SONAR 6, it no doubt is great software.
I'll adress the license issue over at Cockos' forum instead.

There is no 'common issue'. Sonar is Cakewalk's professional flagship product, aimed at being used for all tasks required in a professional composition and recording environment. If all you want to do with it is have a couple of your mates edit MIDI files in your bedroom tracks at the same, then pick up a couple of copies of the entry-level version, Music Creator 3 for $30 and use that.alex zonder wrote:OK, if there's no intention to adress a common issue I'll leave it.

I was just listening to Exile On Main Street; written, played recorded in a villa on the French Riviera, not very far from where I write this.whyterabbyt wrote: Sonar is Cakewalk's professional flagship product, aimed at being used for all tasks required in a professional composition and recording environment
What a great album, what a great sound.
Cheers for now

We don't have many specific MIDI editing enhancements in SONAR 6, but a ton of enhancements for working with soft synths - ACT, the new synth rack, read/write automation enables, plug-in management, etc.mojkarma wrote: This is always subjective. I have both, cubase and sonar and personally, I think that cubase is by far better for midi editing. Unfortunately, there is no info about improved midi editing in sonar 6, so I suppose it is the same as in sonar5.
You cannot split midi notes and you cannot mute them. Something, I use very much while working with midi

Maybe Alex can bring some clarification.
We did change the lasso behavior so that it selects anything it touches, without having to select the entire thing.
Also, we added mouse wheel scroll and zoom to make navigation a lot easier. There's a cool Fast Zoom feature that works with mouse wheel or key bindings that let you zoom horizontally and vertically with one gesture - like a magnifying glass.

I've not tried opening a rewire client in ACID while playing back but I have opened synths etc. Adding markers works in realtime. We can go through a whole list of things that work in a gapless fashion with ACID on my system but that would not change the fact that a host may respond differently on another system. That's why, with any host, I recommend trying the demo.headquest wrote:How about adding VST synths, opening up Rewire clients and playing within them, all with the audio engine still running "gapless" in ACID - does that work too?munchkin wrote: In ACID I can add envelopes in realtime and change effects when necessary. Loading effects takes a bit longer than in other hosts but it doesn't seem to affect the playback. I love adding envelopes with the mouse in realtime.
Returning to the point that started this though - timestretching in Sonar 6.... what I am interested to see is whether it will be possible (in Sonar 6, with Izotope Radius) to manually move/adjust AudioSnap markers while the audio engine is running in real time, in the same way as you can manually move/adjust Live's Warp Markers while the audio engine is running in real time - without gaps in the audio.
(As for ACID, I don't know if you can manually alter the rhythmic content of audio in this way anyway, so I'm not sure why JBM brought up ACID... If you can do this in ACID, can it be done with the audio engine running without gaps - if so then it is relevant to the thread).
I think I would use 'Live' for live performance as it seems to be the most "gapless" according to publicity. I did try the latest Live demo and it wasn't entirely gapless because I experienced some glitches when changing certain parameters.
I'm satisfied with ACID 6 for use in the studio in terms of editing while playing in a way that Sonar 5 didn't allow on my system. That's one of the reasons why I changed host.
Perhaps now that Sonar 6 has true VST integration and the audio engine has been further optimised it will be even more "gapless".

What makes you think my wife was elsewhere when I had the girl dancing?
I posted that to wonder about exactly that: where would REAPER users need winamp visualization for? I'm not a great fan of "fun" and "gadgets" in software you know.
I suppose Justin needs some fun while working so hard on the app's further development.
