Hi folks

I've got a folder of kick drum sounds which show up in the sample browser but I can't preview them and when I try to load them into a channel, the browser takes a few seconds to locate the sample and then nothing, I just get an empty sampler channel. I know the samples are there in the folder and they play in windows media player, and they are the same format, bit rate, sampling rate as all the others.... anyone got a clue what could cause this?!

I'd post this on looptalk but i'm away from home and don't have the cookie on this computer

If you've recently installed or deleted other audio programs or devices it sometimes happens - where audio codecs are involved.

For example, I use the K-lite Megcodec Pack. Whenever I remove it to update to the latest, it makes only certain wav files silent in FL. As soon a I've installed the full package again I can play all wave files in FL again. Not even a partial install will play all waves. I need always need to reinstall the fullest configuration. Then everything works as usual.

I haven't isolated what specific codecs are necessary, but it seems some are added or used by FL that an uninstallation of a different application might accidenatally remove. That's what seems to happen with my codec packs.

thanks debutante. I'm pretty sure I have all the codecs I need, I checked in the control panel that they're all enabled.

it's a mystery.... :?

...if you don't want to go through all the trouble and give it a try, you can find the megodecpack here:

It's pretty cool to have just because it'll let you play virtually EVERY friggin' media format there is to be had on Windows :) . If you do decide to install it just go for the "lots of stuff" configuration or one level less. That always gets things going again for me. Also make note if you have Real or Quicktime already installed. Good Luck!

thanks debutante i'll make a note of that for the future, but don't really want to install all that stuff on my parents' computer

well I had to convert them all to mp3 instead - that'll have to do for now, at least I can use those in FLstudio
