I'm looking for a free VST pitch bender that will bend pitch WITHOUT preserving speed or tempo.

I've searched the database and can't find one.

Does such a thing exist?
I try to care and understand.

the pitch wheel in your sampler?

As an instrument? In that case, Bert is spot on.
As a VST effect? Yeah, I'd like to know as well. There's TapeStop, but from what I know, it's only slowing things down. I also remember some virtual turntable thing which might be able to do the job (is that the kind of effect you're trying to achieve?).

Very simple to do as an instrument, but if it's an effect you're after then I'm pretty sure it's impossible (at least to pitch upwards).

To pitch down a track (like tapestop) you just need an effect that can read the buffers more slowly. If you are trying to pitch up then you need to read them more quickly, unfortunately they won't have been filled yet! ;)
the way is not a religious or political statement

Great point. Might be impossible then (at least in realtime).

unless, you impose some sort of latency, but even in that case, it only would be able to go forward x seconds to the future if the imposed latency was also x, i'm pretty sure something like that could be coded, although it wioul dgive it a bit of a lag-time and probably make it kind of weird to use..

I'm looking for an effect that does this. In the old Cool Edit 2000 they had this pack called Tweakin' Toys with a pitch bender plug with a line (like an envelope draw) and a grid where you could draw a pitch trajectory for your file or simply move the line up or down to change pitch. It did not preserve tempo or speed and made for some really cool possibilities. I'm surprised there isn't anything like that around being that it fits the FSU category.

You don't need any effect if you load the sample into a sample player VST plugin like e.g. SFZ. Many hosts do include a sample player of their own. Just use the pitch wheel controller info to control this. Drawing of this can be done in your host.

You can change the range of the pitch wheel to warp down further than the default of just two half notes. How to do that depends on your host.

there's something like that in Cubase SX2, but i'm not sure if it's what you're after (i think it does preserve speed and tempo)

i've used it on my "Poney Dick" track: i recorded a plain voice sentence and put a sine on it as pitch trajectory.

That can only be done as an offline process, or for short periods with a modulated delay/buffer (like tapestop or vibrato/chorus effect).

If anyone wants to make one like I described above, I'll pay

Unless it works within the limits shamann and others described, pitching upward would require time travel, machine prescience -- impossibilities. Can't output a wave that hasn't got to the input yet.

Well, the one I used to have I just opened a file in my editor, loaded the plug, changed the pitch and rendered. Simple as that.

Meffy speaks the truth. Make friends with the multi-faceted world of sampling, will get you what you need.

Can do that with Adobe Audition or CoolEditPro, right out of the box... No additional plugin required ;-)
