Steinberg invented VST's, how can anyone hate on them, in my opinion Steinberg is king of all VST stuff. And CubaseSX is the shit! Can't wait till it drops, I will be all over it. I'm perfectly fine with the latest 3 version, 4 will just get better. This is GREAT NEWS.......GO STEINBERG!

Cubase.net isn't a support forum, never was.
Steinberg.net is. If you have cubase just go yo help it directs you to support, were among the knowlledge base, recommended setups, there is a page were after registering a product and an account being created we may directly mail our issues with it.
Nevertheless the retailler who sold me the copy at the beggining had to set me straigth on a couple of issues.

There is a search button on Cubase.net, i found most unlikely not to found detailed answers to whichever problem one migth had with Cubase.

Anyway from the advert posted here it is an evidence that Steinberg pay attention to the forum members request and ideas and even find the time to come up with some for they own.

Sorry, that's incorrect. VST is a protocol, a set of rules, not a specific implementation of those rules. If something is advertised as a VST plug-in, it should work with, and be supported by its manufacturer in, any VST-compliant host. The customer's problem had pretty much nothing to do with the host, and everything to do with a flawed installer for Steinberg's product (I don't know if it shipped buggy, or was "made buggy" by one of Apple's changes to the OS).

That particular family of products (Groove Agent, Virtual Guitarist etc.) have a somewhat convoluted history, and it seems hard to get anyone to take responsibility for supporting them.

I defintely know less about pro-tools than yourself angus. And in truth I know little about this groove agent issue - I don't own it and your bfd is much further up my wants list than steinbergs version

but pro-tools isnt a vst compliant host is it ?

and while steinbergs unusual implementation within their vst might not be helping they defintely don't say that it is suitable for pro-tools

So i am just making the case (badly) that the guy's complaining about a lack of support was hardly surprising

the product does not claim to work in pro-tools - and it didn't , errr.......

So Angus,

Have you seen the VST3 specs yet or are the indie VST writers going to have to wait until after cubase 4 ships in order to catch up with them......

Nope, I've not seen them - this is the very first we've heard of a "VST3". In practice almost nobody has even updated to 2.4 yet (which was sprung on us back in February). Seeing as we don't know when Cubase 4 will ship, we don't know how long the lag will be.. but as everybody is still reeling from MacIntel, I can't imagine anyone will be in a desperate hurry to support VST3.

Eric - ProTools isn't VST-compliant, but VST-RTAS is -- that's what it does, the wrapper is effectively a VST host inside an RTAS plug-in.

Uh. And Steinberg doesn't support this. So what's the problem?

True and therefore I expect a higher standard from them than an unusable unmusical host. Logic for PC was more user friendly than any version of Cubase I have ever tried. Cubase 5 and SX1 were a waste of disc space causing me months of frustration. Cubase = unusable!

The problem is that something advertised as a VST plug-in should work correctly in any VST-compliant host. Other VST vendors have never had a problem with this.

That's funny...I swear that I'm mixing an album and making a living with Cubase...Huhn. Must've been SAWStudio...

I know many people use and swear by Cubase. I guess I can't stand the fact that I cannot make use of it. I shouldn't give s#*+ but I do. Any project I started in Cubase died in execution. In Cubase everything feels and looks awkward and stilted. But with all my other hosts the process is nearly always instant and satisfying.

Cubase 4 advert !
