Benh, D'estee! J'understand! I would cry if I had to go back to Pro Tools, for instance, right now.

What was the year again the first Cubase version 4.0 (for Atari ST) was published? And was it followed by a v5? Did Cubase VST make it ever to v4.0 ?
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. Image

IIRC the numbering on PC /Mac skipped 4 and went straight to 5 after a long public beta process.

Hehe... true. But at least now Steinberg is playing catch up again, for a while it seemed they had given up.

A side by side comparison doesn't look so bad now with 4 as it did earlier.
haha lets wait untill it's released first ;)

The full announcement with downloadable spec sheets etc should be in about 14 - 16 days and I would expect it to be on sale within a month of that. Lets hope it is properly sorted quickly. 3.11 PC has been very stable for me.

Strange thing that.
I am a Cubase user for a few years now and tried a few other hosts over time.
But in most cases its like complex math or art, i just don't get it and feel pretty stupid.
So to me, hearing something like this from someone who can really understand not one but multiple of those hosts, sounds like Superman cursing his superpowers. ;)

Anyway the "SX 4" is 'patented' already.

This statement is ridiculous.
he's talking about his experience with cubase. ...his preference. he didn't ask for, or need your opinion on his response.

man, it burns me to no end when i see folks trying to descredit a person's opinon. lol.

i'm cool now, but don't let me see you doing this again. we're here to help each other out. if his experience was bad, he has a right to say that. you have a right to say yours was good. but what you don't have a right to do, is to make some guy look like a fool for saying his experience was bad.

understand man?
he has a right to say it ? - i guess he does but is it good manners to go to a place where everyone is into something and tell them what you think of them

he has the right to go to a klan rally and tell them that some of best friends are jewish and black or even both

but he would get a damn good kicking for his rights
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

For PC the first VST version was Cubase 3, directly followed with 3.7VST. VST4 was skipped on PC as it was Mac only and they combinded both with VST5 on Mac/PC again.

I really hope that they add the SX4, if not I'm a bit dissapointed (that's no whining!), cause I have listed on my page: Cubase VST, Cubase SX and now back to Cubase.

I'm also interested how they call their other lines for project studio users and of course the bundled stuff. However this cover really looks like "Cubase|System4" to me.

I'm really curious what Steinberg will bring, they also seem to have changed the mixer a lot. BUt we know for sure end of September and then the release almost 1 week later, just like it happened with SX3.

I wonder how many versions before that one's bug free :D

Kind regards

It's funny when sonar users talk about bugs in hosts they don't use.
Dear Dave, go to the sonarforum and rave about the new lasso behavior or possibility to change parameters with the mousescroll in sonar6 (not to mention workspaces or customizable icons).
Cubase was able to do this before even sonar 3 was out.

BTW, I own and use both, Sonar and Cubase. Usually I don't troll and bash any of those hosts because everyone has their strengths.

heh, so that's why it's just cubase 4 and not sx4. steinborg must not have seen this coming. wonder if they'll switch back to sx on v5

I remember the original Porsche 911 name was 901.
Peugeot impeached the use of the name 901 because they claimed the figure 0 in the middle was a trademark of their own.
I think the same applies here. The name SX was prior to the Suzuki model.
So it is, probably, to signaling the major update which is a revolution within continuity too.

It's Trademarked not Patented.

Hm, in what way? By adding more proprietary plugins (something I hate the most about Logic is that I can't use their plugins elsewhere)?
By re-defining their "ergonomic approach"? Doesn't look like that from what's been leaking through by now.
By finally optimizing their audio engine? We'll see.
By other features? Regarding that, Cubase can't play LogicPro catchup, because on the feature side of things, it's already WAY in front.

I defenitely wish they'd finally get a clue and fix some longstanding issues, mainly regarding workflow and handling friendliness. But I'm afraid we won't see much improvements here. That's why I won't even think about it too much and better get a Mac (finally).
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

You know I'm Magyar not Hungarian. :)

It's funny, but the Suzuki SX4 trademark can be a possible reason for the 'new naming' of Cubase.

I wonder Cuba could sue Steinberg for Cuba-se. :ud: Or maybe Steinberg pays license fees for the name to Castro. :hihi:
