whats up bill? yeah and if it matters my man, your approach was more persuasive (even if that wasn't the goal it inevitably makes people atleast see what the fuss is about) to me than someone brow beating me for not agreeing.

Nothing at all, grymmjack. Everything's cool. (It doesn't alter anything, but our last two posts crossed while being written). I wasn't being sarcastic.

But thanks for seeing the positive side of my "tactics"!

Literally, all I meant was I'm not getting into unpleasant arguments anymore with people over the tools we use to make music. We both learned something from our "vigorous" exchange a while back.

But I *did* overplay the old wise man bit. (You must think I'm older than God.) Actually I'm a middle-Baby Boomer who grew up with The Beatles, Hendrix, and Cream as my heroes.

Kenn, I was not passing judgement. And I haven't passed judgement. At least that wasn't my intention. But the attitude that was coming across was one of an elitist attitude. I was just making a point that it was a farce to think that.

Grymm, the only problem with running EXT on a flash drive is you have to have the ASIO driver, like ASIO4all or something, on the host machine.

What I currently do is keep another host there. You can use any of the small hosts, like VSTHost or others. You can use Reaper.

Myself? I actually manage to run Tracktion straight from my flash drive. The only downside is that it writes to the registry and the entries it writes are for the different types of Tracktion files and archives. So I have to open them with right click instead of double click, as the computer doesn't remember it. But I run Tracktion fully from my flash drive at times, and just insert EXT into it, or another smaller host.

There is a topic in the hardware section where I have started a list of apps that run from a flash drive. I didn't put Tracktion in there because of the small limitation I mentioned.

Can it or can't it, I don't know, but if it CAN, I think there might be much more to that application than meets the eye. If you check out the SawStudio users forum you'll find a lot of guys using Saw for replacing a hardware console for live shows. There used to be SawPro, which was a multitrack, and SAC (Software Audio Console), which was a live mixing console. SawStudio basically combined those two programs and added new features. It looks like Bob might break SAC back out to make a lower cost live console package again.

i remember i went in for an interview for an internship at a small radiostation and the guy doing the commercials was all over using SAWstudio, I inquired "whats that?" he said "sawstudio..." I replied, "never heard of it." he said to that, "Sawstudio is the industry standard for all radio stations, so you better start hearing about it"

needless to say I wasnt accepted there, and never bought into the saw crap

also dont forget sawstudio has an affiliate program so those who are really pushy about it have a "reason" why.

Uhhh, I work for a nationwide radio network. I work in the studio there. I have never seen SAWStudio in a station. Ever. For editing, we use Audition on some computers and Cool Edit Pro on some others. For the station itself, we use radio software. Nothing close to SAW.

Just saying, that's all.

What's nonsense is implying that anyone saying anything good about Saw is an affiliate an therefore has an 'ulterior motive'. I'm not an affiliate, and I doubt anyone who's posted in this thread is.

I don't sell the software either. I bought it when I was looking for a portable recording setup and at the time laptops were far less substantial to their modern conterparts. SAW was the only daw at the time that would record all the tracks I needed without any problems. Nowdays with far more powerful computers I can see that the streamlined programming of SAW might not be a concern for anyone looking for a recording app. The old limitations just aren't there anymore.
