I guess aciddose means non-linear = dynamic.

Modulation just adds variation, but it does not change the with the source... it is still linear in the way the process is applied.

Also, does anyone rate roomworks as a good reverb plugin ? Or isit rubbish ? Which ones do you recommend ? Anyone know of any good free reverb plugins ?

The Sonitus verb that comes with Sonar is almost free - $59 I think - go to Cakewalk - you can buy it as a single - very under rated - very clean and uses little cpu and...and...sounds better than any freebie out there - I have tried them all andI believe the Sonitus is superior. My opinionn though.

modulation does not make the system nonlinear no matter what kind of modulation it is. at any particular point in time, the system will still be linear.

i said if reverb A and reverb B are modulated in the same way, A+B will still equal A|B.

(A -> filter) + (B -> filter) == (A + B) -> (filter)

it only becomes a problem if the modulation is different, or if you try to use an impulse responce, since the impulse will be different as the filter is modulated. you can do modulation using impulse responces though, you just need a whole lot of them.

I did a little test today to compare the Ambience reverb to the Roomworks reverb built into Cubase SX3 (because in terms of controls they appear to be identicle and I was curious as to whether the sound processing underneath was identicle too, that was my initial assumption before testing anyway)

I gotta say, I really couldn't get them to sound exactly the same, imho the Roomworks is much better than Ambience, just sounds more solid and warmer to my ears.

I only just decided to try out Roomworks today, never tried it before ( I just assumed like most Cubase inbuilt plugs it would be crap, like the Reverb A/B)

But actually Roomworks is surprisingly good!, especially if you take the time to tweak the variation point depending on the source material. I'd put it up there with ArtsAcoustic as a worthy tool in the collection (not a replacement for AA though, they each bring their own character, but quality wise its right up there).

I really like Roomworks, but because its Steinberg licensing a Smartelectronix product, it gets no love here. The CPU is crazy, and I still find Arts Acoustic to be the best bang-for-little-CPU, but Roomworks is really great on vocals and snares. I find if you flip through the presets and tweak around, you can usually find a decent balance of quality vs CPU.

No, wait: IK Multimedia CSR is awesome and comparable to AAR for CPU...can't wait to buy that one!
