Well I wouldn't mind a new GUI, the one from the Sonar bundled plugin (GAC) sure looks nice, but if Torben likes to keep that GUI, well... it's not like we can't still use those plugins, can we?
I like fancy stuff but that was a tad bit over the edge for me
where the actual user point got lost since you can't view
all the items at once compared to the GOLD series GUI...

who's the emboss now? :D (bad Photoshop joke)

They are both trivial to people who don't want them, important to those that do. Neither has any effect on the sound, but both can have effect on your ability to get the sound you want.
Of course, usability is a very important issue, and both design aesthetics and layout can affect usability. But beyond this it all becomes cosmetic. Skinability is nice for those who like to make something unique to themself, but it's not exactly important compared to the functionality of the software. Anyone remember the Voyager gui that was larger than a 1024x768 display? Now there was a usability problem. :)

Unbelievable isn't it?
I mean somebody there decided that "looks is more important" and "who cares if the user needs to toggle between screens"

Have you seen the comparison between the new Gold series skin and the old one? While we don't have any A/B comparison (only for different plugs at the moment), it's clear that the new one is just a refinement of the existing one. It's not drastically different like Ohm Force does with their Funky and Classic plugin skins.

I know I will now come off as very harsh to some people but a few things need to be said. :?

All this talk of gui colors/design and their influence on usability of a tool reeks of extreme unprofessionalism. I know most of the people here are just hobbyists but letting something like this issue influence your ability to work... time to find a new hobby little Tim. You are neglecting the most important bit of this line of work: the sound.

a bad carpenter blames to tools, and right now we're only talking about one of the best of plugin line ups.

What makes this extremely ironic is that very likely the same people that whine about guis around here also start numerous thread variations titled "why do my mixes suck?"

Food for thought really.

To those who say gui colors and design influence your ability to judge a sound, look up the word placebo in the dictionary.

do it now!

Nobody said that.

I don't think so.
The sound may be important for some, but there are also people want a nice "vintage hardware looking" gui more than anything.
Buying, collecting and looking at plugins is a valid hobby too imo.
And being fooled into thinking a better looking plugin sounds better is quite ok as well.

Maybe time for me to find a new forum. These ideals seem very alien to me and somehow wrong, bordering on sacrilege. :scared: Bloody stamp collectors.

maybe he asked for a new GUI because he's the only one who actually really work with it..

What you're missing here is that usability is everything when it comes to getting the most from software -- any software. Yes, the sound is obviously the entire reason for the software when it comes to music, but interfaces that intuitively facilitate creating sound are superior. Ask any graphic artist about software for creating artwork and you'll hear the same thing. So, usability is a very professional concern, and major software companies maintain or outsource to usability labs. Even web sites are subject to usability testing.

I get your point about the purpose of the software, but ignoring the interface is definitely not a good idea.

get /= judge. Check those out in the same dictionary.

ie. you let the interface get in the way when judging the sound. Your ability to work (ie. make decisions ie. judge) is hence blurred.

Let's wank more semantics. It's always such jolly good fun.

Indeed ergonomic tools are great, and all kjaerhus GUIs can be safely filed under that moniker. Hence I think this thread is but white noise, and the menial gui change requests completely irrelevant.

Ok, maybe i should have put a smiley there to make it more friendly. :)

Maybe.
Or you could just ignore it because it doesn't have much to do with your hobby/profession.
Besides, this pseudo mentality is in every aspect of our life, especially if money is involved. Why should the audio plugin world be free from it?

you do make a good point. It would certainly explain quite the many behavioral models we see around here.
