hi guys,
as you know, right now we have a lot of great non-cash prizes that a lot of you generous folks have donated. we started off with synthmaker and then there was craziness all around. stuff coming from everywhere and everyone. people giving, giving and giving. anyway, i have a question and a suggestion.
at first, i thought it would be fun if we gave synthmaker to a person that signed up in that thread by a random name drawing. and that's we did for the rest of the prizes as well.
i was thinking, wouldn't it be more logical and fair if we distribute these prizes based on vote count? i mean, ok we're going to have cash prizes for the top three positions, but what if the fourth place's name doesn't get drawn and they don't win anything? that would be really sad to see.
so, obviously my suggestion is that we scrap the random name draw and go with the vote count.
what do you say?

I agree, Tuz. But either way, it's all fine with me - participating is more important than winningtuz wrote:so, obviously my suggestion is that we scrap the random name draw and go with the vote count.

I kinda liked the random name drawing, if someone doesn't get a lot of votes he still got a change to win something for his work.
This contest started with 1 money price, then 3 money prices.. and now you wanna change it again..
Also where will it end? ..maybe the fifth should also 100% get a price..but maybe then the sixth too and the seventh..etc etc.
Another thing,. then probebly the best developers will win all the prices, like Urs and stefancrs and brambos ..and the lesser developers will never have a chance to win something.
my 2 cents..
Cya!

Right, then next year you'll maybe see some peep participating just because there is a draw with a nice prize.XGmode wrote:I kinda liked the random name drawing, if someone doesn't get a lot of votes he still got a change to win something for his work.

Calling every contestant but Urs, stefancrs and brambos for lesser developers might be a bit hard, dont you think? there are a lot more good developers out there.XGmode wrote: Another thing,. then probebly the best developers will win all the prices, like Urs and stefancrs and brambos ..and the lesser developers will never have a chance to win something.
Anyways, it is a competition, not lottery, is it no?

Special categories : Best FX, Best Instrument, Best Midi plug... Or do like in a movie festival, prize of the jury, prize of the public, etc... type of stuff.
Maybe also commercial devs should participate in a separate category only.

I kinda only know the work from those threelarsby wrote: Calling every contestant but Urs, stefancrs and brambos for lesser developers might be a bit hard, dont you think? there are a lot more good developers out there.
I meant that I think they have a big shot at winning, i dunno the work from others... so I keep that as a measurement.
It's more like i feel the details are changing almost at the end, and i kinda was hoping to get a shot at synthmaker or solarsby wrote: Anyways, it is a competition, not lottery, is it no?
But ofcourse in the first place i joined the challenge for the fun, and when i joined only the $500 prize was there.
I'm just giving my oppinion on tuz his post.
Cya.

i'm sorry guys. i hear ya about the changing the rules in the last second and all. it's the first time and i didn't really expect this great response from all of you. donating your work like crazy. i'm really not sure as to what the best way of doing this. but like i said before, based on vote count, i'm just afraid that the people with higher vote counts won't get any prizes with the name drawing. i just want everybody to be happy with the competition.

It's ur competition, so whatever you do will be fine ofcoursetuz wrote:i just want everybody to be happy with the competition.
And I do very much appreciate that you're asking the developers involved what their thoughts are on all the details

For me personally it ain't that much bothering me which way you want to do it. Either way would be fine for me. But I gotta put up a finger warning you that the risk is quite high that the better programmers will get the better prizes.
