Please help me with FL6 Midi in routing with Electribe EMX

I did RTM and even watched the tutorials but I still don't get it.

Please don't ask me to post this at looptalk, I don't know if it's the way I ask or what but I don't get any response over there.

Here's what I wan't to do:

The drum part of the Electribe is going out on midi channel 10, the synth parts or going out on midi channels 1,2,3,4 and 5

I want to route channel 10 to percussion in FL6 and 1 through 5 of the synth parts to their own individual vst/generators.

Please help,
Thanks! Riley

I gave up long ago trying to use my Electribe EM-1 with FL so I won't be much help. I think you may need to give a little more information as to what you're trying to accomplish in order for the wise folk here to help you.

I would like to be able to control VSTIs inside FL6 with the midi information coming out of the EMX. I can get midi into FL6 but I can only get omni or all of the channels and it sounds really bad.

If anyone is willing to help I would really appreciate it..

well ...
i'm no expert , and i don't currently use any controllers , electribe , or otherwise ...
seems to me that the answer would lie in the midi out channel insert ...

try this ...

> make sure your electribe shows up as a midi controller ...
> open a midi-out channel insert ...
> set the channel of the midi out channel insert to '10' ...
> pick an unused midi out port , for the midi out channel insert ... say '5' ...
> insert the plug-in you plan to use for percussion ...
> set the midi in port of that plug-in to the same number you used in the midi-out
channel insert ...

try that , and let me know how that works ...

Thank you! This is getting notes to the proper instruments but only the activated/pushed instrument will make a sound.
hmmmm.

Yes focus..Should I use one midi out for the whole project or a midi out per instrument?, which is how I have it setup now.

heh ...
let's stop the re-quote madness ...

i'm glad that my suggestion worked ...
this is uncharted territory , for me ...
you are going to have to experiment , on this ...

if you use one midi-out: ...

you have only one channel selection ...
you have only one out-port selection ...
this seems as if it won't do what you are trying to do ...

if you use multiple midi-out channels: ...

this seems to work , excepting the 'focus' problem ...

my suggestion:

use multiple midi-outs ...
read the help file about building 'layers' , using 'children' ...
this may circumvent the focus problem ...
you should be able to build many midi-out channels into a layer , with the focus being on the layer ...

try , and see ...
good luck ...

If you hold down CTRL and select multiple green things (focus), and then try to play, what happens?? basically, select all the MIDI outs you want to play with CTRL key and play... what happens??

Post

Thank you for all of the help everyone.. Using the multiple midi are getting me somewhere.. My ctrl key doesn't let me select multiple green things/channels but my shift key does and it still doesn't give multiple focus.
I'll check out the layers and children.

i've had some further thoughts , on this ...
i'll wait to hear how the layer concept worked , for you ...

Well, the layers and children are for when you want to control more than one VSTi with the same controller, but, in the tutorial it only shows that it can make them all play the same not on the same channel, not actually assign serveral different midi channels from the same controller, controlling different vsts.

I set this up in Live 5.2 and it was so easy it gave me goose bumps.

I take time out serveral times a month to try and learn how to use FL6 becuase, I know it gives more control over allot of aspects.. Maybe in FL7 they will have a dummy mode for dummies and then we can turn on the technical mode when we want a challenge. :hihi:

I'm done whinning. If I figure this out I'll post how it's done.

Thanks agian for all of the help!

well , as i said , i haven't a controller to check this with ...

as an example , i was able to build a layer w/ three midi-out channel inserts , as children ...
each child outputs to a different midi channel , using a different out port ...
each out port sends to a different vsti , w/ a matching in port ...

did you get that far ?...
anyway , keep me posted , as this subject comes up periodically , and i'd like to be able to solve it ...

Normal that sounds like it would work. For me it's the inbound channels to fl6 that can't seem to be controlled. It's like it's in omni or nothing.
There's got to be a way..

I'll explore some more with children.
