It's a love/hate relationship for me when it comes to FL. I love what you can do with it...but I hate that my files get corrupted with virtual ease... That sucks when you've been working on a track for an hour or two...and all of a sudden it corrupts.

That pretty much forced me to start using Reason. I honestly had no desire to even use that program, because I liked FL so much...but now that I've started using it, I like how fast the workflow (well some of it anyway

) is and that my files haven't been corrupted. I've even gone on the internet when I was making a track to read some information on compression, just to see how Reason would react to me going on the internet and making a track at the same time and I still didn't have to deal with a corrupted track.

Gotta Love it!

Anyway, all I wish is that FL finds a way to 1) be more reliable, and 2) find a way to fix my corrupted tracks. If they can do that, then I'll be a FL supporter for the rest of my life.

By the way...I have found a way to help your system run FL a little better.

Use these programs/suggestions (only a recommendation):

1. Diskeeper (one of the best defragmenters on the market). You gotta defrag your system.

2. CCcleaner (a free program that works wonders). Cleans your caches/registry out, and best of all, it's free!!!

3. Adaware or another anti-spyware program.

4. If you have a PC, make sure you go to the Windows Update site frequently.

That pretty much forced me to start using Reason

What's sure is that using a sequencer that doesn't support VSTi's.. will indeed not leave any chance of a VSTi corrupting projects..

As someone who's rifled through thousands of people's computers fixing them, not to mention my own daily battles with my PC, I'd like to make a couple observations:

1) never allow anything made by Yahoo onto your PC. Period.

2) McAfee is garbage. Just throw it away and get freeware from www.filehippo.com - AntiVir, AVG anti-virus, AdAware and Spybot are all better than McAfee or Symantec/Norton.

3) The forums for software companies have all the customers for those products freaking out like retarded weasles on them and the company itself can't very well tell them to f**k off. Just avoid them - I almost want to buy something overpriced from N.I. just to briefly witness the horror of their customers' forum posts.

4) FL... a seq is not like a multitracking host. The main problem that I've seen arise with file corruption is that something weird happened and the, here's the important part: then you hit save!!!. I've almost never had a problem with file corruption once I learned to save OFTEN and save frequent new versions, despite the fact that I end up with a hopelessly huge number of generations of the same song but I've never regretted once being able to go back and salvage a project that got messed up because I saved right before I tried something like, oh, instantiate a VSTi, whacky as that may seem. FL is a Windows app. Windows has the devil inside it trying very hard to come out and ruin your day. Save often, make many version. It isn't fair but it will help you out of 99% of your migraine-inducing nightmares.

5) You're going to hate me for saying this but I've not once ever attributed a problem to cracked software. Well, at least not the fact that it was cracked. Computers are inordinately complex systems and sometimes stuff don't like to live with other stuff on the same machine or some other tiny little thing just goes haywire. Some programs, when you uninstall them make your CD drive hardware no longer be recognized and you have to go muck about in the registry. Samplitude, for some reason, is quite sensitive to disk fragmentation. Not owning Samplitude it took me a while to figure that out on other people's PCs when they couldn't get it to work. BTW Samplitude kicks ass and they are free to send me a promo copy.

6) Virtually every single person in the entire world has nekkid pics on their PCs. Really. It's pretty amazing and generally less weird that you'd have guessed too - thankfully I don't like in Austria or I may think differently. I'm not even vaguely intrigued by what's on people's hard drives anymore but they should probably not have folders set to "view as thumbnails" if they're gonna have pics of their nekkid boyfriend in there while talking to their PC tech, lol. Oh, also for some reason a decent percentage of people have text files with their SSN and credit card and bank account info and stuff like that on their PCs. Why? Perhaps they want it stolen via trojans or something. Only thing I can think of. Seriously, people, don't leave financial info on your PCS like that. Wtf?

7) FL has weird problems with different versions being installed, especially an older version after a newer. I can't quite put my finger on it precisely as I've only observed it in other people's PCs but from their descriptions (which are unquestionably not entirely accurate) and the results I've observed file associations get messed up and I'm still trying to figure out exactly if it causes problems. Anyone know? FL's not something I'm willing to experiment with breaking on my own PC

Agree with 1) definitely. Yahoo services have always casued problems for me. But I have never had any issues with McAfee. What kind of trouble did you have?

Nope. Maybe in a future edition...

It does support Rewire though...

Some of the issues FL had with VST's were one of the things that convinced me switch to Reason. I like VSTs...don't get me wrong, but between them eating up cpu/ram...and them partially being the cause of corrupt and crashed files...that's what convinced me to try something new.

I used Reason for years. I absolutely love the interface of Reason... concept to finished track time... but No VST support / Audio recording is a huge problem for me so I wouldn't rate Reason as a good alternative to FL Studio... in my opinion (My opinion is arguyable if the FLStudio user is only using the Synths / Fx that were included in FLStudio with no need to install VSTs)

I totally agree with runagate's suggestion of saving often and making new versions. I actually try to just select "Save New Version" from the File menu instead of impulsively hitting Ctrl+S whenever I want to save my work. Sure, as previously noted, this method generates a ton of saved files but it's great to have every iteration of a given song for future reference... (but it's pathetic how it's usually just an archived record of my tendency to tweak in circles!

I have yet to encounter a corrupt FLP file with this method... and I would have to agree with djguido's assessment as well...
