How to determine delay for external instruments in SX3?

How should I determine the amount of delay for my external instruments in SX3? Can I take the input latency of the soundcard? Should I account for any delay in the midi-path?
Or does Cubase measure it by itself since the last update, like with the external effects?

I don't use Cubase, but I hear in general it does a pretty good job in figuring out all the latencies by itself.
It should be the midi latency (when the instrument is played by midi generated by Cubase) + input latency.
You could do some experiments to verify you have the right amount. Make a midi track with e.g. some cowbell hits. These should be quantisized exactly on the beats. Let this be played by your instrument, which is hooked up to another track. Record it, and zoom in so you can see weather it's exactly aligned or not.

record/export a sound with fast attack trough the hardware integration and look in the exported file how long it takes for the sound to start from the beginning.. usually around 5-10ms

the way I do it, I put a 4 beat audiotrack looping like a kick or hi hats (any sound with transients -fast attck)
Then I send also 4 midi notes from the midi track to my synth, plaiyng a patch with attack set to zero..
Then I press play and I adjust the midi delay until the synth plays on the beat.
This will vary depending on the buffer size you've set, if you change it, you must reajust...but its quite fast and easy.

I use JV1080 and D-550 and i dont have any issue with delay.
