I I am going insane.
I use Logic Express and I have begun to collaborate with a mate in another country. He is terrible with computers but I am training him over MSN - but we have hit a problem:
For some reason (I have no idea) whenever he imports audio into logic either via the audio window, or via "import audio" in the audio menu, the wav plays speeded up and pitched up. It plays at normal speed in the browser, but as soon as he inserts it into an audio track it sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks.
I don't know enough to help him. What has this fool done wrong?

My first guess would be it's a sample rate problem. - If the audio is at, say, 22KHz (samples per second), and the host is playing it at 44.1KHz (samples per second), it may sound twice as fast.
I know that Logic Pro 7 automatically corrects stuff like this, and changes the sample rate accordingly, but I don't know whether Logic Express (particularly an older version) does this or not. - If not, he will have to manually change the sample rate.

I was wondering two things:
1 how can I tell what sample rate the audio was recorded at?
2 how can I get logic express to correct this?
Just in case it's relevant - he imported a system wav to test it, and this too played at double speed (it was a standard mac sound-bank alert)

Not a Mac user, but if things are playing at double speed, it sounds like he's running his soundcard at 88 or 96Khz, he needs to work out how to change this setting on his soundcard.

In the box, under 'format', it will say something like "16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 44.100 kHz".
The sample rate is at the end (44.100 KHz in this case). - If it's anything less than 44.1, you'll have to resample it.
I don't know if Logic Express can do this, but if it can, you should be able to double click the audio (in Logic). Go to Factory > Sample Rate Convert.sidekick wrote:2 how can I get logic express to correct this?
Make sure (in the Arrange page), Logic is set to 44100 from the Audio > Sample Rate menu.
As others have said though, it could well be a soundcard issue. (consult soundcard manual). The following may help:
From the Finder, go to Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup. Make sure in all the Format boxes, the sample rate is set to 44100.0 Hz.
