Does anybody knows something about a free vst-plug in that enables video playback feature for a vst host.

I want to teach my students to compose a soundtrack for a film and prefer to use free software to do this.
On the one hand I own cakewalk sonar 5. although it is possible to playback video in this DAW I do not want to use this because my students surely have no chance to buy this software for about $ 500. And so they cannot proceed for their own from the point I left them.

Only one I know of: http://www.groc.org/movieplayer/

Doesn't work at all for me but who knows, maybe you'll get better luck.

Then there's this one, but needs winamp to work: http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1814.html

I've gotten no luck with it either, probably dependant on what host is used so you might be luckier than I.
No, that wasn't me.

Dunno if it's any help Musinux but have a look at Dmi's VST-Winamp Bridge.

http://dmi.smartelectronix.com/

Winamp can be, assuming you have the correct codecs, used as a video player and this plug supposedly allows transport sync. Haven't tested it meself but hope the suggestions of some use...

EDIT: Bullshark beat me to it - I should try actually reading what's on the screen first...

Hi Spiggy, I've already tested your suggestions. But there is a problem. I want to use Cakewalk Sonar Start (a german free lite version of Cakewalk sonar 2). This version lacks MTC and SMPTE Sync Support and so the winamp bridge does not work. The VST Winamp bridge works fine in Cakewalk sonar 2.2 and my new producer Version of Sonar 5 (if you register the vst plugin as a vst-synth and not as a audio plug-in) but these Sequencers are not free.
And these versions already have integrated videoplayback functions for all registered windows codecs, so anyway inside these programs I do not need an additional playback function.

I've to test the movieplayer today, as suggested by bullshark. Thanks for your hints.

I've just tested the plug in in Cakewalk Soar 5. It does not work. Some major errors occur, when sonar calls the dll- file.

Thanks anyway.

Some more suggestions??

did you install the pluggo-runtime? it's a prerequisite.
i guess there won't be many further suggestions as those two mentioned solutions seem to be the only ones as most hosts now incorporate video-playback.

p.s.: moin, moin ;)

Thanks, I have not yet installed the pluggo runtime..

Let's give it another try.
