huh? thats the way it always has worked. youre sure you didnt choose one of the alternative tool behaviour modes in your template or something (you can link the audio position to the object start, but thats NOT the default setting).

maybe i misunderstood you. but if not, you dont have to wait for sx 4 for this...its always been there :-)

Yeah, I gotta say that isn't what happens in Cubase or Nuendo on my end either!

watch the "other features" flash video on the steinberg.net site, there's a demo of the trim tool. imagine cutting across a range of midi events. hard to explain verbally but once you see the video you'll get it.

Actually, looks like Kritikon was thinking about audio...not sure if the new trim tool extends to audio as well..?

Has anyone seen the sceenshot on front page ??? http://www.steinberg.net/983_1.html

Yeah, it's probably this, I'd wager:

i have more patches that are called "roads" or avoid the name and call themselves "mark 1" etc than i have patches that are called "rhodes". guess its a copyright thing, the term "rhodes" probably belongs to fender.

you can download the operation manual pdf now if you want to get a sneak peak at how it all works.

according to the manual, the trim tool is only for midi.

ha, so it DID happen before :-) all i can say is, the tradition of calling "rhodes" "roads" in my own library goes far back in the past (if thats correct english), the oldest "roads" entry i can see is an old ensoniq EPS patch from the early nineties. so i guess its not exactly a new problem :-)

either way, the behavious hes longing for was there all the time (unless i misunderstood what hes looking for). you can change the way the standard multipurpose audio cursor works. by default, if you would move the object start, the audio would stay in its place. you can also link the audio position to the object start (more of a broadcast thing i guess, doesnt make much sense for music), in which case the audio position would always stay in its relative position to the beginning of the object. that seems to be what kritikon described, no?

(edit: kritikon, in case this actually is what youre talking about, the way to try it out is to left click on the standard cursor in the cursor selection area, up in the middle or the arrangement window. a little menu should open that lets you choose between "standard", "audio to object start" and "timestretch" - or something like that, my program doesnt speak english so im not sure what it says in english :-)

The manual? All is see is "Complete list of new features" and "Comparison chart Cubase 4/Cubase Studio 4".

EDIT: Actually, it clearly says in the Canadian copy: "A new Trim tool in the key editor allows for trimming start and end for multiple events"

I'll give that a try, thanks.

Strangely enough, I reloaded SX2 fairly recently to get the defaults all back to standard (I'd changed it so much in the past, I couldn't figure out what was what, and actually buggered it up way too much :? ) And on default load up...audio clips in my version move a clip back to the original start point if you edit inside it at the start of the audio. To not do that, the only way I figured was to convert "events to part" or whatever it's called. No big thing, as I prefer working in parts rather than original clips anyway...I snip and move audio all around as standard nowadays.

I'm sure it'll be user lack of knowledge on my part...I just got used to editing audio inside a part rather than the clip editor or sample editor (I don't have the patience to learn all about the sample editor...). Old habits die hard, I'm afraid. I like to deal with audio parts the same way I always have done with midi parts.

kritikon, there's kind of a hidden option that is the culprit to the behavior you describe.

Did you know the standard selection tool has three modes? i.e. the most basic of the tool modes in cubase: the arrow. Selecting the arrow from the tool menu (or shortcut or the arrange top bar) several times in succession let's you switch the modes.

I wish I could turn them off *completely* as I only ever use the default mode, and the rest of them are just confusing, because the arrow icon changes so little to indicate them.

it's accident prone as is.
