The Cubase 4 HalionOne sample player uses the "halion sound bank"-format. Sample-CDs and -DVDs made for Halion 2 and 3, do they use this format?
What I really want to know is, if I can import Halion 2 and 3 samples into Halion One. Anybody?
I read the Cubase 4 manual, but it wasn't too clear about this.
Thanks

yes - but it has to be in hsb format - i.e. no working with wavs
From the manual
"Included are several preset soundbanks (VST and Track preset formats), but you can also import fxb/fxp files created with other versions of HALion, and convert these to VST3 presets."
now what i want to know - which the manual doesnt tell you is whether it disk streams

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

According to Chris Beuermann, one of the Steinberg coders, it'S not possible!
Halion One is a rompler!
Edit:
Then again, over at the Steinberg boards there was just this posted:

In short: Halion One is a rompler, but no sampler. However you can create own "packs" (with Halion 3 for example) for exchanging with your colluegues. See it as similar functions like Kontakt and Kontakt Player, while Halion One is a "Halion Player" in this case.HALionOne is a sample player that can play sound content in the HSB (HALion Sound Bank) format.
These samples have associated preset files that store the panel settings and reference the HSB samples. Included are several preset soundbanks (VST and Track preset formats), but you can also import fxb/fxp files created with other versions of HALion, and convert these to VST3 presets.
HSB files cannot be created with HALionOne - you need the full version of HALion to do this

OK so I can buy samples for this? Is there a program to convert samples to Halion format? Halion seems rather expensive for me.

Bad news!
The HalionOne seems to be as locked by Steinberg as Atmosphere is locked by Spectrasonics:
QUESTION: "Is the HalionOne sound set expandable or will it be? Or will you be able to convert formats to it?"
ANSWER: "HALionOne can only accept HSB files which have been exclusively created for it, which is currently only the content delivered with Cubase 4 or Cubase Studio 4. The HALionOne HSB files can be only used inside HALionOne, but not in other HSB format supporting products, such like HALion3. Expandibility is given in a form that we could of course create additional HSB banks to be used with HALionOne for future updates. Opening HALionOne to generally accept all sorts of HSB content could be possible as well for the future, but is not yet planned." http://www.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=55696
Cubase needs a sampler! When you can't even import Halion libraries into the HalionOne, I wonder why Steinberg is limiting both the customers *and* themselves in this way!

They might open it up in the future, especially if HALion format goes the way of the Dodo, which is appears to be.

OK, you mean the Halion format is going down the drain? Well, this last move by Steinberg certainly points in that direction! Unbelievable!

Well, it's purely conjecture on my behalf, but it seems to me that Giga and Kontakt (not sure about EXS?)are cleaning the floor with HALion. You just don't see much coming out in HAL format anymore, nor do you hear much chatter about it here. I could be wrong, but I think it's being squeezed out, just by natural market occurences. NI did a great job of leaping on the ROMpler market. Hell, practically everything uses the Kompakt/Kontakt player UI these days!klagga wrote:OK, you mean the Halion format is going down the drain?
