hi folks. i'm just wondering if it's possible to draw loops in live like you do in acid. cause i often use this drawing in order to create new loops by moving the loops one 16 step or rearanging the loop from scratch 'n than just copy paste the wohle thing. can i do that in live aswell? cause in most of the screenshots you see live in the session mode ( is it called like that ) and for me who i'm used to the old timeline thing it be interessting if i can do these things, i used to do!

different question. same topic: is it possible to let files run at half of the host tempo or dubble? like working at a jungle track with 170 bpm und layer the whole thing with a hiphop beat at 85 bpm... normaly the hiphop beat would be played twice as fast as it should be or the jungle beat would.... you know what i mean. is this possible?

hi blakes...I can answer just the 2nd question, since I don't know ACID.
In the clip view on the bottom, in the clip section (where you can change warping method, pitch and so on...) there should be an indicator with the guessed tempo of the loop. Just below, two little buttons marked ":" and "x". Ones halves the tempo the other doubles it...

ah yeah.. the acid things not really anything special! i just want to like only repeat the second part of a loop 'n than the whole 'n than the only the first few bars.... something like that. i know that i can tell live what to do but in that case i don't want to do that live but before and than just let live play the whole thing.

The answer to your first question is I believe Yes as well. You can draw out loops in Ableton Live's Arrangment View, and move them, copy, etc in the ways you want.

Best though if you download and try out the demo from here, so that you can see for yourself how easy and powerful all this is in Live:

The other thing that is great in Live (and maybe in Acid, I am just not familiar with the program) is the use of "UNLINKED" clip envelopes. It is hard to explain but easy to see and use within the program. You could, for example, have a 2 bar clip and overlay a 16 bar unlinked envelope which would give you a variety of volume/pan/transpose pattern possibilities. Also, if you use an uneven length envelope you essentially add a random-type aspect to the clip since each cycle will add different aspects.

Probably doesn't make much sense from my explanation but it is a powerful clip tool.

thanks guys for your answers! yeah i know....demo. problem is just win 98! gonna buy me a new notebook and thinking about what software i'm gonna use. and since most of the programs got demos theres not to much information about the software on the hp of the companies.
