How do I use a MIDI effect that acts as an instrument? I'm trying to use the Talent plugin.

Post

You use it like you would use an arpeggiator.

And how is that? I'm trying to use it in Live. You can only put one instrument in each MIDI channel, and Talent acts as an instrument, not an effect. I'm assuming I put the Talent in one and the Instrument in another and send the output from the Talent channel to the other? I can't get it to work.

Try this...Image
Ignore that it's for Playa, I'm sure Talent works in a similar way. The important points are that monitor is set to "In" and the target track is active.

Now with improved MIDI jitter!

Doesn't work.

use energyXT to wrap it inside, eXT doesn't care if you connect two VSTi ;) - you can check it with the demo. the demo is fully functional, you just can't reload saved projects until you purchase a license.. that means if it does work, save the project, purchase a license and reload it whenever you need it ;)

I can't get it to work in Live myself either.

I don't manage to run properly any midi plug in Live but maybe that's because I have just only Live 4.

Well I want to use this in Live not XT so..

Are there any other plugins that do similar things as Talent? To be honest, I don't know if it does what I am looking to do, but I'm looking for a plugin that I can use to recieve a note and make patterns out of that note (and give me lots of control over how that pattern is generated). It doesn't have to sound musical, because I'm using this for sample triggering, not for playing a synth. I suppose this is just arppegiation right? I can't seem to find many arpeggiator plugins. The one in Live isn't sufficient.

energyXT can be loaded as VST into any other host.

It seems talent outputs the same whatever midi note it receives. It just need to receive a midi note but does not take it as a start point like an arpeggiator does apparently.

As for arpeggiators, arp4midi (also by xoxos lile talent) is probably the best around.

You could also try chord makers midi plugs, playing with the strum.

Have a look there : http://www.midiplugins.com/
