Major changes:
-Accurate BPM timing (set bpm is now true bpm)
-Mixerview added (Pre and post mixer)
-DSP blocks with alterable minisliders in the mixer-rack
-Audiorecording in sample editor
-Line-in DSP effect for adding live audio in to your effect signal chain
-Undo/ Redo for everything
-Virtually unlimited samples per instrument
-Zoomable automation (now with smooth tickbased transitions)
-VST 2.4 standard support
-Open song / instrument format (XML structure) to make third party development easier (convert from / to or process static saved files or clipboard contents)
-Patterns can now be seperately rendered to separate files.
-Color syntax highlighting

Beta is currently only open to registered users unfortunately

Well, you can always browse the 1.8 reported bugs topic on their forum..
I'm just thinking in this manner:
i register now and have 1.5 and can do beta testing or i wait until 1.8 is final register then (so i can enjoy updates from 1.8 to 2.8 instead of 1.5 to 2.5).
Considering they went from 1.5 to 1.8, this last idea seems more feasable for me.

lbsl; i'm already regged user. i think the beta can be installed side by side with the other. i think only minor version upgrades are free, with the major versions (ie 1.x -> 2.x) cost? not sure on that though.

If you bought it at version 1.28 e.g. your registration is valid till v.2.28.
As soon as v.2.3 comes out, you'll need to update.

Well usually syntax highlighting in a tracker means effect commands have their own color or each column (note, instrument, effectcolumn) have their own colour so you could more easily see what is happening in your tracks.
Don't know what they exactly have syntax highlighted.

hm so still no pdc or freeze? =/ damn that my needs have to be so high :P the tracker interface really has its highlights, but the engine and some other parts are badly dated feature- and usabilitywise compared to the big boys :P

wouldn't it be great if some manuafacturers started to make ready engines, like they've done in the gaming industry, so that people that are good at designing interfaces could concentrate on their job and still have all the bells and whistles of the big boys =)

i guess it just doesn't work that way. too bad :P

I read on the forums that copied content is all in xml format and i read the suggestions to paste the contents in the "notepad"... wouldn't it open an opportunity to write an application that can perform some scripting? It all depends upon what can be copied to external programs, but pattern data seems to be transferrable outside on-the-fly. (back and forth)

larm, at least octamed had arexx, and iirc, some other trackers on amiga, had scripting capabilities as well. never used the scripting capability on them, though, so i can't really say anything else about it.

Renoise 1.8.0 beta on the loose...
