kritikon, there's kind of a hidden option that is the culprit to the behavior you describe.

Did you know the standard selection tool has three modes? i.e. the most basic of the tool modes in cubase: the arrow. Selecting the arrow from the tool menu (or shortcut or the arrange top bar) several times in succession let's you switch the modes.

See...I never knew that either.

I suspect there's an awful lot of things I wish I knew about SX if only I knew that they were there to know about. Y'know...I was really happy with Cubase ver1.0 once upon a time. Midi on its own was soooooooooooo much easier.
There's probably an option in SX to decide how many options you can have.

I only moved to XP back in early summer, because NI's Kore only works with XP. I was happy with W2k, but glad I made the move anyway.
Now, back on topic - I haven't upgraded from SX2, but since most of my work these days is done in Cubase I'll certainly make this switch soon. I've seen a lot that I like.

once you take a look at it, also make sure to try out the different grid modes, cause thats another one that seems to affect you. you can choose whether you want to move objects absolute to the grid (classic cubase, protools) or relative to the grid (logic). and theres a couple of more broadcast oriented modes like snapping to previous objects and the like.

trying that stuff out really takes just 15 minutes, but its quite powerful stuff when you know about it (and equally confusing when you dont ;-)

May I comment on the vst3 standard, I think I have seen somewhere that Vst3 isn't backwards compatible, eh would that not mean we can forget about old plug-ins like A1 etc.etc.etc.

I actually like my old plugins, actually all my plug-ins are old plug-ins (none vst3), My motivator just went down the drain, if You understand what I mean.

VST 2 is still supported too. that should cover basically all plugins but the ones where you had to active "old host behaviour" (just a guess)

You can still run VST2 plugins in cubase 4.
