what do you consider the easiest workaround for freezing tracks in renoise? just render the track and play it as a sample in the traditional way in the tracker? is there some keycombo-sequence that makes this fast and easy or something? (btw, maybe you can script this in the future?)
what about pdc? you delay all the tracks, or just make the slowest chain play earlier?

The default keycombo for 'render selection' is Ctrl-Shift-Alt-R. You can change it to whatever you like in the preferences though.
With thhis one: http://www.voxengo.com/product/latencydelay/
You can manually delay each track which does not introduce any latency.
Yeah, they are workarounds, but they work.

freeze:
mjeah so no magic easy-to-use keysequence of automatically rendering a track and splitting it into beat- or patternlength samples and inserting them into the right spots and disabling the vst- and vsti-chain and temporarily replacing it with the sampletrack? .. oh, well, that actually /would/ be a kind of a freeze, already, so i guess, "no" ? :P
delay:
would be cooler if you could easily make the delayded sound/track play earlier instead of delaying all the rest of the tracks :P hope they would make a tracker-command for that or something :P

FxFreeze work very well ^^
You have to play the track(s) you wanna freeze. And you can compensate the playback within this plugin.

That's cool. But what with arranger thing like it is in cubase. The old fashion order-style sequencing is a pain...
Anyway good to see the progress, but it's not what i expected.
Cheers,
CCT

actually, last time when i was considering renoise as my "the" host, i /did/ try both fxfreeze and the voxengo latency delay. can't remember exactly what was wrong, since it was a good while ago, but i can't think those being ideal solutions. iirc, i found those workarounds really interfearing with the tracker-workflow.
i'd really like to see renoise rendering the tracks split by patterns into normal samples that you can then go on tweaking and editing =)
and i think that at least manual pdc wouldn't be that hard to implement. just make the tracker look a little forward and iirc, trackers had this delay-command .. just make it work negative as well?

I just won't add anything to this one right now than the fact that Renoise is still growing, and that it is a damn tracker.
For god's sake once again. If you want to mix your tracks with full PDC or want to freeze the tracks you're mixing, than nothing does hold you back from doing it with rendered tracks from Renoise in another application. Does an MPC have such kind of feature? Will it have it in the next 1 million years? lol
If you want Cubase's linear horizontal way of mixing tracks, use that. Trackers are not supposed to work that way.
Have fun.

...
i said that those workarounds interfere with the tracker workflow.
NOT that the tracker workflow is interfering with the workarounds ;)
it's just that i use heavy effecting on my tracks, and don't want to adjust the delay of 20+ tracks (yeah, plenty of tracks, too) every time i want to adjust or a/b a track etc.
where did i say i want "Cubase's linear horizontal way of mixing tracks"?? relax, man! what i'm suggesting, isn't anywhere near how cubase works, is it? what i'm suggesting is how things could be implemented in trackers in a way that would be even better than cubase. i mean, to be able to manipulate the "frozen" samples just as any normal instrument, wouldn't that be cool?
"If you want to mix your tracks with full PDC or want to freeze the tracks you're mixing, than nothing does hold you back from doing it with rendered tracks from Renoise in another application."
actually there /is/ something holding back. or kinda. my fxchains are pretty huge already before the mixing stage, and that means i have the problems i described earlier already before mixing. i need a good solution already before a separate mixing stage.
now you're probably thinking "well f**k off! if trackers aren't good enough for you, just stop complaining then and go back to cubearse or whatever it is that makes you happy!"
yeah, i will! but it's actually energyxt. it's just that i've never felt confortable with sequencers, since i've been using only trackers for music for well over 10 years (and i'm pretty fanatical about music). sequencers just started having such good features that i had to move on wehen trackers couln't keep up. now i'm checking out the newest and bestest trackers every couple of years, and, of course, trying to make conversation about the lacks and workarounds, and my ideas..

sorry I got a bit aggressive, we'll have to wait & see.
and/or nag about such features being implemented in the Renoise forums...
ps: it wasn't you moonlite talking about arranging things in Renoise like in Cubase, it was CCT.

you seem to have this attitude that trackers aren't even supposed to have those cool, handy features that almost all sequencers have, because "it is a damn tracker".
you seem like it's "ment to be" that you can't do all the things in trackers that you can in the big boys? just because "it is a damn tracker". i find this attitude a bit insulting against trackers.
I CAN see a tracker that do all that and more. just too bad it hasn't yet arrived it seems.
and what has MPC to do with anything?? you think trackers should be like an MPC?? you think renoise wants to be like an MPC?? ;D
anyway, cu in a couple of years ,)
EDIT: btw, sorry, didn't read your reply yet, just got a bit frustrated.

yeah, i could try that, too =) .. thanks for the tip. don't know how much effect it would have, though, if nobody else wants those features. they are pretty big changes =/sQeetz wrote:sorry I got a bit aggressive, we'll have to wait & see. :)

actually, i /have/ been thinking about some other way of arranging the patterns and tracks compared to the classic tracker way ;)sQeetz wrote: ps: it wasn't you moonlite talking about arranging things in Renoise like in Cubase, it was CCT. ;)
