And now I half-get it.
What do those numbers do? I've never used them for anything.
I've placed little titles on that bar for the names of song transitions when the songs got out-of-ontrol long, I guess.
It's been waaaay too long since I read the manual, but then I've read a couple hundred other manuals since then lol.

for some reason it bothers me to no end not to see the numbers there like, ok this is measure 6, well go for 6 more measures, blabla....
also, then when you do event automation, how the heck are you supposed to see exactly where you want things to begin and end? I use the numbers for that. If I want something to suddenly shut off by a certain measure, i need the #s!!!
but its true.
and yes, this isnt bloody arguing, its discussions of different workflows, honest critique of an excellent host, and a fit of bish.

There's one good, and probably equally annoying way.
At the top of the audio clip/automation window at the bottom of the playlist you can drag it up to make the channel of automation you need to see be right up next to the actual playlist block things, which of course zooms in, too, sorta, then you can sync things very closely to the actualy uneven metered block thing.
Couse, you can't actually see what's going on in that particular pattern that's represented by the playlist block, which of course is a huge pain and hopefully something that'll be addressed. I can't see why we can't look at something that looks like the sequencer when it's got notes on the piano roll. Course, I'd do away with the seq being visible by default, too, and leave that as an option like the piano roll is.
I am mighty sick of right-clicking a channel to see the piano roll.

you know once the piano roll is being used on a channel you just have to click ON the actual piano roll right?runagate wrote: I am mighty sick of right-clicking a channel to see the piano roll.

shortcuts are your friend, F7 for the piano roll. I usually just F7 and pick the channel I need from the drop down box in the title bar.

I'm almost always working in 4/4, but I've never had any struggles when working in 3/4, for example. I really dont know what your trouble is...

I don't think anyone is arguing. Just a discussion with different points of view.
The playlist needs an overhaul. The basic functionality should stay intact, but why not stretch areas of the playlist like you can patterns? And if there's going to be a live mode, make it worthwhile. As it is it's pretty worthless. Might as well just play straight from the playlist.
Although, many of my gripes may have been fixed in 6. I'm stuck using 5 because my bandmate is deathly afraid of upgrading (he thinks it'll be too different or he'll lose something). It was like pulling teeth to get him to upgrade to 5.

Yeah, I hate upgrading FL and I'm really hoping that the next one isn't so great I can't just ignore it until a hard drive crash or something forces me to re-install. It took 11 days to get all my plug-ins sorted out last time. Sorry, but I agree with your bandmate somewhat.
I also certainly agree that FL has needed to update it's playlist thing for a long time.
I suspect that much like other DAWs there's just so much "grandfathered-in" to the way it works that there's some major decisions to be made in regards to backward compatibility or re-writing whole sections of code from scratch because seeing the way Usine and Reaper leap forward that's the only explanation I can think up.

Hilarious. just made a new thread asking the same question. 6 years later lol..
will delete the new thread.
has anything changed in FL in the last 6 years? as far as working with multiple time signatures is concerned? I know a ton of other stuff has been improved. I will mess around with it more in depth tonight.

No, not really.
