Yes, but the issue is the same : I have the impression Live routes the midi before it passes through the plugin...

Is there any solution to use Ext direct midi output, without using the Live's one, when Ext is wrapped in Live ?

Post

@glurgle... I'm not sure about the version you sent sinkmusic through PM, but the version linked earlier in this thread was already recognised as an "instrument". The problem with it probably is the fact that it has no audio out ports. For VST MIDI plugins to work in Live they MUST have an audio out port....shame really since most of the ones worth having don't have audio outputs.
I'm at work right now and couldn't test in Live till I get home, but when I loaded it up here on my work machine in XT, I noticed only MIDI I/O.

@ maki...

check this thread:

for some examples I posted which might help you to do the kind of setup you want. Including other things you will find a Hi/Lo key setup which I use to set key zones....but you can use parts to get your "Lo key" in your setup...also a "transposer" setup which you should have no trouble adapting to what you want. There will be a problem with the setup glurgle posted if you have a controller which sends NoteOff messages on key release instead of NoteOn messages with a value of 0. This is due to Note2CC. ...in my example is a similar setup, but using MungRack instead of Note2CC and is setup to recognise both NoteOff or NoteOn Vel=0.

@motorskill, the version for download on my website was changed to the instrument one. OTOH, if Live requires an audio out, I think that's tough luck for Live users . I don't like having to connect an extra audio out in eXT, it makes for a really messy modular view.

Regarding the problem with my other plug, I actually did change that behaviour and upload a new version. I'd really appreciate it if you could test it out and see if it's catching your note-offs correctly now. (I don't have a controller that sends out proper noteoffs :()

edit... I thought the problem was due to my Note Cycler plug, but if it's Note2CC, it wouldn't be too difficult for me to make a plugin that recreates that functionality and catches NoteOffs correctly.

I contacted Ableton's tech support. They told me that "I don't think Live currently supports MIDI I/O plug-ins, only Audio VST and VSTi".
So i'm f_cked up with this one, i guess.
I don't know if i can make it work in Live with Midifilters embedded in Ext, i tried several ways, and it never worked. Maybe i'm doitng it thewrong way, but i am really disappointed about Live, this time...

I think you need to do the following:

- open Live
- load an eXT VSTi as instrument
- in eXT connect audio input and audio output (pass through)
- in eXT load the midi plugin of choice and connect midi in and midi out with the plugins midi ports
- apply the routing as shown in the help for chordspace
- Play

Let me know if it works (which it should theoretically).

yup, works here in Live when wrapped in XT. Perhaps sinkmusic, you are missing the setting on the recieving track, under where you set the "MIDI From", you will need to change that next drop down from "Track out" to "energyXT".

I gotta agree...plus the fact that they will use slightly more CPU when used in XT with an audio out(leave them disconnected if the plugin will let you) ...I started to save all my plugins with an Audio out port just to use in Live, but abandoned the idea when I discovered Live forced all MIDI from a VSTi to MIDI Ch 1. Just much easier to use XT in Live for routing.

New version of NoteCycler works good. ....if you wanna test your plugins for compatibility with NoteOff messages you could always mung your NoteOn v=0 messages to NoteOffs. I forget about this all the time...it gets ultra confusing when you discover how the hosts may affect this, for instance both Live and Phrazor convert NoteOff messages to NoteOn v=0 before they reach the plugins...and yet FL converts NoteOn v=0 to NoteOff v=64  ....even many Midi plugins will change the Note Status bit occasionally.

MIDI Monitors made in SE are useless for distinguishing the difference, since it displays NoteON v=0 as NoteOff v=0 :? ...I use TobyBears Kondor when needed which displays this and lot's of good info(it crashes alot so save often and only load it for testing)

New version of NoteCycler works good.
Glad to hear it :) Just a small oversight on my part, and anything I make from now will be catching all noteoffs correctly.

I've updated my page with some old betas that are pretty much final but won't be developed any more.
NoteFX, TapTempo, and Envelope Trigger.

(Also I added 4 audio crossfaders)

For those that have keyboard velocity problems and need a way to correct them now designed and available from IRRs, the VelocityCurve. I use it inside energyXT and its works great.

See thread: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 656f66f7f8
to download the VelocityCurve but not sure for how long it will be available. http://platinumears.com/VelocityCurveSM.rar

Thanks Soma! The crossfaders are great

:D Glad you like them.

I've been using Nicfit's mung racks to translate note messages into cc values.
It works fine with note ons, but the note off don't seem to work.

I've tried a plug called midi transformer, which does basically the same thing, and same result.

So i'm wondering if they are both based on dave haupt's modules, and this is a bug, or if i'm missing something..

Would anyone care to try ?

cheers

You need to use NoteOn with velocities set to 0, instead of the NoteOff option.
