Any idea as to what can be used to produce a kind of nasal voice a la Video killed the radio star ? Originally, was it just compression and EQ ?

Sounds to me like he's singing through a telephone, could be emulated with eq

with EQ, cut everything below 300HZ and everything above 3KHZ. That a typical telephone EQ. Add a little distortion to make it even more "real".

I saw him do that in concert, the guy from The Presidents. He may have been using a clothespin, I don't really remember now. It was such an awsome show though, they totally kicked out the jams.

Listening to this song now, he's singing about music in the fifties so I think he's trying to emulate the AM radiosound of the fifties

So to summarize, the kind of plug you need is a noseplug. A telephone or old radio impulse would help.

Trevor Horn!!

I saw him TRY to sing Roundabout live
with Yes on the Drama tour...his voice cracked and he blew
a note and the entire arena stood up and booed his ass!!

Waves has a "telephone" setting that nails this tone.

Yes it was Trevor Horn who sang on that song, he later did a lot of producing himself like Frankie goes to Hollywood etc
