Me too!

It's 7:57 here and I got to run but will be back this afternoon. This thread is very interesting to me - how RAW and various REX and WAV loops are being used.

Later,

This is a cool thread and I agree there are some good sounding user demos in here. I know Beergeek posted some of his stuff in the SR demo thread but you guys should remember to do that too because that is our most popular thread and it is full of user demos so check it out!

That's hillarious. I find the same thing. Years ago when I was doing an acoustic guitar thing as well as small bands I would write about 3-5 songs a week - always starting with the lyrics. Now days I have about 30-40 unfinished songs (or at least song fragments) looking for lyrics. Perhaps it's a combination of "lost-angst" and ease of putting the music side together with today's tools. The other thing I've noticed is that working alone - doing everything yourself - limits the "bounce-off-of-others" creativity so that probably hurts some too.

Intersting to see your brother works at Apple. I'm not too far from there (east bay) next time you go to visit let me know. I'd love to meet another k-v-r'er as well as a SR/eSoundz junkie. :)

It's pretty cool...one of my problems is that I want to try so much stuff...but at some point, you have to just stop, learn to use what you have and make some music

Kontakt sounds really cool. I've never used it or know much about it. I've been trying to resist the urge to add more to my software locker. Trying to stay focused and dive deeper rather than broader. Kontakt, however might have to make its way into my hands someday, however.

As for loop construction - it's really hard to say. Most times I just start to audition loops and find one that strikes me as cool. I then look for loops in similar keys and juxtapose them until I find something I like. Then it's a drum here a transpose there, here a stab there a riff. Pretty soon I have something that approaches music.

It's great fun.

Hey Dan,

I pretty much do it the same way. I listen to a few until I hit one that has something I think I can use in a rhythm track. I take whatever I want from that loop, throw some drums on it and play with the tempo until I have something I think sounds interesting. That's when the real fun begins ;-)

I'll listen to some more loops until I find something else that has the same feel whether it's the same key or not. Then I do whatever I need to do to fit them together (or at least pieces of them). Rinse and repeat until I've got a basic rhythm track.

That's when I try to figure out if I can actually make it into a song
Play what you feel and feel what you play.
