Lol, so now *I* am Lennard, is that what you mean ? Ask your forum admin, I'm sure he'll be willing to do an IP check for you. But then again, I'm quite sure you'll think of another conspiracy theory. Like this whole thread was from the beginning.Teksonik wrote:No Lennar errr I mean dumb ass. So you actually stopped bashing and hex scanning for a second and took the time to actually LISTEN to his demo samples ? Wow. I'm sick of this forum and all the haters already that can only bitch at new initiatives. Good luck with your crappy Teksonik shit you call a VST.

Actually the SYNTH DEMO doesn't sound BAD it just doesn't compete at it's price point and brings nothing really new in terms of quality or diversity.

Seriously, are you jealous that this guy can code his own modules and you can't and that his stuff is good enough to actually ask money for it ? He did a very fine job. Why would he have this thing labeled as SE if he didn't use any of its audio routines at all ?
Just grow up. Damn.
I credit all the module developers for their contributions to my humble creations including Jeff for the use of the of the SE shell, even though I'm not obliged to do so - And I don't attempt to pull the wool over peoples eyes in an attempt to mislead people to the actual origins of my creations.
I don't personally give a flying f**k how this synth was created - but I can recognise someone pulling a fast one when I see it, and I object to this guy attempting to rubbish the work of many the SE third party module developers who I and others have a lot of respect for.

Dunno about all the SE module stuff - if the guy used SE to create the front end & it all works, whatever - although that should really have been made clear on the web page blurb, as it has now helped create an atmosphere of distrust which can only work against him.
Anyways I reckon it sounds o.k. (but nothing particularly 'special') - but at that price point (& lower) it is up against some very stiff (& already well established) competition.
Good luck to the developer, I personally feel he may have priced himself out of a lot of sales.

He didn't attempt to rubbish the work of many SE devs, he coded all the modules he used himself ( or a friend..whatever ).
He was telling everybody the truth about not using SE build-in DSP modules, and he said he only used the GUI side modules.
So, no secrets there..
I had downloaded the old version of his demo, which had some unprotected modules and checked all.
There is *NO* stealing going on, and the unprotected modules are useless ( and useless with the update he made, i think ).
I liked the filters, i also have respect for the work he did so he got voicemanagement.
There is imo no need to flame him this long..
And about the price,. i dunno but i think he did a good job and guess he worked quite some time to get it all to work correct and if he feels it's worth this price...then let him.
No need to keep on bitching about it,.enough is enough imo.
my 2 cents
Cya!
Rob.

I tried to help out by offering to do a bank of presets.. Figured I'd trade 128 or so presets for the synth, as he's only got a few dozen presets right now. I showed him synths that I've created banks for, and he asked me to download the demo and make some presets for him. So, 10 minutes later, I emailed him 6 presets for his synth, here's the PMs:
--------------------------------
Hi Steve,
Thanks for your reply. I checked the presets, but to me it seems like they have been generated by randomizing the controls.
We maintain high standards when it comes to presets, since they are the "face" of a plugin. We are sometimes spending hours on a single preset ourselves to bring them to perfection.
I'm very sorry and I hope you'll understand.
Best regards,
Lennard
--------------------------------
Of course I used a randomizer, how else would I send 6 presets within 5 minutes?
Randomizers aren't evil, they'll find you a good starting point and then you tweak them until you find a good sound. If you want to compete in the softsynth market, you'll need lots of presets. If you look around, the best selling synths give you 500+ presets, and then sell additional presets on the side. You've got a good sounding synth, but you're going to want to have a good 512 stock presets on there, and you probably want them in there quick... now that the readers of KVR are checking the synth out.
--------------------------------
No response after that. Hey, I offered my help, for free. I wouldn't buy a $200 synth, especially with that small amount of presets. Even though I like to tweak my own sounds, I still like scrolling through for a good starting point. If you're spending hours on a single preset, you're in the wrong business. I probably could have come up with my own presets without a randomizer, but I've got my new controller on order and mousing around on the screen is tedius when you're starting from scratch. I did my half my bank on SH-1001 with just a mouse and cramped up my hand.

whahaha,. if i had build a commercial synth and some guy send me ( only ) 6 presets made using randomising i would do the same
Imo that's an insult
!
Only love and time ( and a understanding on how to make a good sound ) for a synth will give nice presets.
How to make 500+ presets ? ...take some time and play, play, play. hehe
Cya!

Sorry Rob - this looks like a rubbish to me.lennard wrote:So, even calling it a "Hybrid SE plugin" would not do justice to Sylenth1, since not even a single SynthEdit module (either default or third party) has been used in the audio engine. SynthEdit simply lacks in quality and performance, and there is no way ANYONE could make a VST in SE only, that sounds full, warm and bright like this AND uses so few CPU resources
And the fact remains he still needed SE to make it.

From his attitude in his posts, I didn't want to spend too much time making them because he seems combative, but it was worth a shot. Most of the time randomizers will give you crap anyway, but I was only using it as a starting point. I didn't just hit randomize and then save the preset, I hit randomize until I found something that was halfway decent, then adjusted ADSR controls and filters to get the sound to where I wanted it. There was only a handful of presets in the demo, it was either start from a square wave or use a randomizer to get the ball rolling. Like I said, my new controller is coming tomorrow, today all I had was a mouse.
Besides, the voice in the demo was really really annoying, and half the controls are blanked out on the synth. Like I said, it's a good sounding synth, and I came up with some decent sounds in the 5 minutes I played with it, but it's overpriced for someone new on the scene. Didn't Kjaerhus start out with freebies to give people an idea of talent before smacking out the expensive (but professional grade) plugins?
do a google search for samplebytes presets and you'll see some of the synths I've made presets for. I'm not the preset master like Tim Conrardy, but I can take an analog synth and make an organ or bell easily enough.
