Oh that is absolutely classic Steinberg there - more of that old steiny shuffle.

What kills me is in 4 pages of forum traffic asking for anwesrs from Steinberg all the info they got was
"Hello...
DirectX plugins are not supported (any longer). We will put a KB article online next week."
I mean I'm a Cubase user but only on SX2 so bothered so much but F**k me wat a piss take.
You know how that read to me ?
"Oh Shit! they noticed, quick!, best write something up quick".

Just have to point out this is unconfirmed, guys.
EDIT: Sorry, totally wrong. The new 4.0.0.1 update list confirms this. Wow. What a shitty thing to do.
Mind you, DX plugins are possibly on their way out; I hardly use them anymore and all the former DX champs are directly supporting them now - why do they need DX anymore? I'm sure the day is coming where Sonar, SF, et al won't support them either. But still, this would be disasterous for old projects. Pretty lame.

The Steinber mod on Cubase.net came out and said they are no longer support. stevieb19 quoted Christian Dettner. I am not sure how much more confirmation is needed?bduffy wrote:Just have to point out this is unconfirmed, guys.

Thing is (apparently) the mods/devs had already answered other peoples post stating that there would be no issues importing old SX3 projects into Cubase4.
Now this seems to give the lie to that & certainly needs qualifying - as under certain circumstances (i.e. where directX plug ins have been utilised) there most certainly will be issues.
Just seems very shoddy to me - as a poster in the thread on steinies site mentioned, one would have thought that they would have mentioned this much ealier in the development cycle, in order to give their users fair warning.
This could prove to be very expensive for those users who mainly rely on old versions of waves plugins - that WUP? sting will be pricey indeed.

Yes, I agree; quite the explosive tidbit to mention after its release.
Not to be a fanboy, but I'm trying to think: at this point are there many (or any) plugins that don't have VST versions? And a funny thing: with most of my old SX 1/Nuendo 1 projects the DirectX plugins don't load properly, even when they are installed on the new machines; something in the registry messes them up.
Maybe it's not as bad as it seems?
Still a dirty trick, of course.

DB audioware - DX only I believe, aren't timeworks DX only (fairly high spec/quality also)?
Dunno I don't personally use any direct X plugins.
I just think it's appalingly bad form & customer service.

That's right, both excellent plugins (but pretty replaceable, IMHO). If you read that Cubase thread all the way through, there are some interesing points raised, like that Vista may outdate a whole whack of DX plugs and that you may be able to use something like Acon's Effect Chainer to do the trick.diverdee wrote:DB audioware - DX only I believe, aren't timeworks DX only (fairly high spec/quality also)?

But still: you'd think they'd kiss ya before they f**k ya.
