Offline render in Autotune. Unstable VST versions of many popular plugs. And believe it or not, there are still many good DX plugs out there. I don't use them. But then again, I don't use Cubase. So this doesn't directly affect me. I use DX from time to time, but not too much.
I just think it's shady the WAY they did it, not that they did it.

NYU Media Labs bought 3 copies of Cakewalk Project5 v2, and, according to a new policy, I get to use Project5 v2 on my home computer. However, I couldn't give a shit about P5v2; what I do give a shit about is the sampler, Dimension Pro.bduffy wrote:Not to be a fanboy, but I'm trying to think: at this point are there many (or any) plugins that don't have VST versions?
If I were an SX3 user, I'd be pissed off as f**k, cause Dimension is one of my fav. synths and I use it for a lot of my songs. Thank god for FL
And no, that is not an invitation to flame hosts.

Well threads are getting locked down left, right & centre on steinberg.net - which is their usual policy when their is some kind of PR disaster.
A lot of the guys who appear to be extremely pissed off at this move (& especially the stealthy, sneaky, underhanded imo) way it was done are guys I remember from years ago when I actually used to use steinberg products - i.e. longstanding champiuons of steinberg/cubase.
Way to go Steinberg - piss off some of your most vocal & knowledgeable supporters & then lock the threads wherin they complain in order to further alienate them.
Just seems like pure arrogance to me - figuring that if people have invested so much time & money in a particular host they can't easily change & being sneaky enough to not publicise what is a very major negative change in functionality in order to rake the cash in for the upgrades.
This is the kind of business practice that personally turns my stomach - it just seems so tawdry & unethical, plain wrong.

This is TERRIBLE!! This makes C4 unusable to me, unless all of the DX effects manufacturers update their plug-ins to include C4 VST support.

The main one's I use and miss are the Sonic Foundary DX plugins [22], Hyperprism DX plugs[32] and DSP-FX[12]
They are old gritty, but unigue. There are no VST eqivelents.
That's SIXTY SIX plugins I cannot use anymore. I have other DX plugs I don't use so often

sad thing is stienberg probably dont give a shit. They'll just not do anything and cary on with it, they probably have enough of a market share to just give whoever wants a refund a refund and sweep it under the rug.

Thing is I reckon (sadly) that any user who has opened the package &/or installed the software will most likely be buggered by some form of EULA stating that they wont be able to get a refund.
I could be wrong of course - I hope I am.

ok, my 2 cents, too:
i think (besides the fact that there was no info from steinbug) it could be a good thing to drop dx.
that maybe forces the developers of dx plugins to finally create vstplugins of their dx versions, as steinberg stuff is used by a lot of cusomers.
maybe they then finally realize that the vstplatform is the way bigger market (which i don't understand some dev's didn't realize anyway).
honestly, if dx would behave better in so many hosts (exept sonar), i'd state different maybe ... (allthough its mostly not the dx-dev's fault, rather the host-dev's)
mabe we finally see the timeworks stuff reworked as vst ... that would be really cool ...

oh yeha! you're wrong, licenses are fully transferable i think people could be entitled to a refund.diverdee wrote:Thing is I reckon (sadly) that any user who has opened the package &/or installed the software will most likely be buggered by some form of EULA stating that they wont be able to get a refund.

The thread locking is nothing but house cleaning. The bigger topic on this subject is still active.
DX was lame and lamer on Cubase w\o even DXi support, so the great big Dynamo wouldn't ever run on SX3 w\o a wrapper.
Next i hope to see people to ask Steinberg to support AU or RTAS. Ain't life grand?

why is it that people whine so much ???
yes they got rid of dx - its going to happen folks - even cakewalk arent pushing dx anymore
if you really need a dx plug in can you find a completely free dx host that allows you to run your plugs as vst
yes
OK steinberg could have been more upfront about lack of support - but really - all the time whining about this could have been spent solving the problem - it took me all of 15 seconds with google

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.
