neokoo, SAME problem here... same FL discomfort (i actually feel that the playlist system have negative impact on the way i construct songs), and the SAME conditions for a new host.

Tried: cubase, sonar, project5, bidule, reason (great but too limited), ableton live, tracktion, podium and energy xt.

NONE of them currently have all of my (our :)) needed features.
I find ext most flexible, currently waiting for xt2 which i think will be just what i'm looking for.

Anyway, the answer is WAIT. =\

I compose in FL studio, mix down tracks and then do final mixes/audio tracking in Reaper (previously Vegas).

Sometimes I have to go back and retweak and rerender... but I've become pretty good at predicting how things will sound once once at the final mix stage...what FX I can render down with...and also know when I'll be happy with something or wether the arrangement still needs work.

I can get ideas into FLS VERY quickly. Its damn fast for me, and a less sophisticated/usable midi pianoroll would just be pain.

Where I'd like to get to is that I export midi files from FLS into say Reaper and use the same plugs in there...just using the midi editor in reaper for tiny changes. PC isn;t powerful enough for that yet though (to run my mix down plugs along with sampleplayer plugins etc )

Second monitor would be nice though. Perhaps a xmas treat.

Wait yet again :D It's been like this for the last four years. FL lacks a feature, I search for a new host, I do not find a good enough replacement and wait some months for the next FL version to have the features I need.

I thought this time some other host could finally free me from this cycle... maybe the next version will indeed have all I need, maybe it won't. I'm getting tired of this, to be honest, because other sequencers have had the features I need for ages. Then again, at least previously most of them have not had the features that keep me using FL, so I'm back to square one.
Tada!

After using FL Studio for a couple years, I finally picked up Live and I now can do things I've always wanted to do. It took me a while to see the light but I'll probably be using Live more than FL from now on.

I switched from FL Studio to Project5 and never looked back.

Yes, the pattern-sequencing problem is solved, and it works quite well, based on my first few tests! They have done it again :)
