Cakewalk has no plan of dropping DX anytime soon. (See the aforementionned link earlier in this thread).

If I were an SX3 user, I'd be pissed off as f**k, cause Dimension is one of my fav. synths and I use it for a lot of my songs.
Dimension Pro is available as a VST.
Dimension... that's the name... BTW DXi were never supported by Steinberg, only DX fx.

That's what's supplied with Project5 V2, yes. But he specifically mentions Dimension Pro.

I was correcting myself, earlier i call it Dynamo. Franckly, i never heard of that plug... Dimension Pro, okay

BTW has DXi it never could be runned on any SX version, that's quite an indicative how Steinberg feels about their competitors approach.

Seems like the loudest, as usual, are non-Steinberg users. So it doesn't even affect them...so what's the problem?

As mentioned by Stag...you can't and never could (AFAIK) use DX instruments. And if you could, why would you want to, when Cubase automation would most likely become extremely difficult (surprise, surprise because Steinberg is set up for, and always has been since long time...for their own VST format).

I really do feel sympathy for Steiny users who seriously have crucial DX plugins. But I can't see how there are that many. It's been quite a while since any dev has released only DX versions.

Any time I ever used a DX plugin...to be really honest - it was a complete pain in the arse. Silly windows still open at the bottom, a different way of opening the GUIs (no big deal, but it constantly interrupted my workflow...automation - I never figured out how to automate DX plugins TBH. All I know is that Read and Write didn't work, so I never bothered learning. Which consequently meant I almost never used DX because I like automating things.

Steinberg aim is very clear from where i stand: Developers there is a huge task ahead to bring up VST 2.3 to VST 3 specifications. Take no prisoners. :)

Thats actually 'VST2.4 to VST3 spec'. Steinberg only just moved the goalposts, and its already known to have caused more than a few headaches for developers.

Hmm Apparently some previously working rewire functionality has gone AWOL & there is a possibility support for MFX effects is by bye also - that's unconfirmed though.
Or am I just shit stirring?

My 2c: better get rid of something that is flaky, and cleanup/maintain what's considered a priority format, in this case VST.

SX4 won't break any "old project compatibility" for --brand new users--. And mac users, I guess.

Crucial project from old userbase could be finished with prior versions - if anything else fails.

Huh? I've been using Cubase SX version 1, 2 and 3 with DX plugins without anything being a 'pain in tha arse'. I use dbAudioware's DX delay plugin religiously. Now I'll have to load a wrapper to use it. Now THAT is a pain in the arse.

I think for the most part, it was a Friday night, and as usual, they had nothing better to do.

look here
http://perso.orange.fr/vb-audio/us/prod ... dxrack.htm

completely free dx host that works as a vst effect - it works will all direct x plugs AFAIK but it defintely works with autotune

so really what is the problem ?

is it just that british thing of kicking those who are doing well - sarcasm being the lowest form of wit and all that

it is wierd to hear about that re-wire thing - it turns out that you could get stereo rewire channels all along, but if i never knew a feature was there I dont suppose i can miss it

PS ok cakewalk arent dropping dx support - but every release tells the world how good their vst integration is - when did there marketing people last say anything about direct x ? - it looks deidedly like the format war is over on pc - vst won
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

Oh goody, I have to load in one thing, then load in another, when it previously was one step before. Doens't sound that trilling to me. Not to mention, it's something else that's eating up resources on my system.

OK i can see that it is annoying - I don't use any DX plugs so im maybe being a little charmless about this - still that db audioware set, the timeworks stuff, the hyperprism things and the old compressor from the tc works bundle are the only dx plugs without vst equivalents - although autotune apparently doesnt work well as a vst

correct me if I'm wrong but none of these will work in vista (or 64 bit computing) and none of the manufacturers support them anymore so steinberg have decided to not include support for this handful of plugs for the short period of time in which there are likely to be a few users - safe in the knowledge that if you really must use them you can

it's hardly doomsday - annoying, definitely - but the vast majority of users will never notice this change

i just wish steinberg had said no dx support in their advertising - but i suppose thats a sad refelction on our sound bite culture - bad or negative opinions cannot be expressed as it would ruin the branding

PS whats so good about that dbaudioware delay that your still using it ?

While on this issue, what ever has become of this:

The Generalized Music Plug-in Interface (GMPI) is a working group of the MIDI Manufacturers Association set up to consider the feasibility of a standard interface for audio and MIDI software plug-ins, to complement or supersede existing vendor-specific interfaces such as VST.
The GMPI group started work in 2003 and published a requirements draft in April 2005.
