so if you had the choice which to get, for that REAL SOLID minimoog sound? Ive been looking for this sound for so long, never knew that it was a minimoog ive been wanting

arturia? minimonsta? which one?! or is that free one minimogueva good enough? now i listen to fabfilter one... wtf is going on here! haha

enlighten me

i would choose minimonsta definitively but also grab the minimogue as it is free and quite nice sounding

minimonsta have lot more bank presets can make sounds in bigger range and don't have dongle protection
concerning their prices i think they are equal

The Arturia minimoog v does not use dongle for protection.

My personal experience: If you cannot hear the difference yourself, then does it really matter which one you get? If you cannot hear the difference between MinimogueVA and MiniMonsta and Arturia, it's a waste of money to pay more than the MinimogueVA will cost you. (Not personally aimed at you RonC, but in general).

There are also Minimoog soundsets for Eve/Wusik and for Rhino, that might satisfy your needs as well.

btw if you read the GOOD reviews of these kind of products, e.g. the SOS ones, they state that even two real Minimoogs don't sound alike (copying the exact settings doesnt result in the same sound). If the MinimogueVA sounds great for you, than just use that. And use the money you save to buy my PSP MasterComp instead

You can't go wrong with either, they both sound great. Arturia Moog Modular V is my favorite single plug-in, but when it comes to minis I prefer Minimonsta to Minimoog V for its flexibility and the Melohman patch-morphing power.

Hans is 100% correct that you ought not to be concerned that MiniV and Monsta don't sound exactly alike. It's just How Stuff Is; a good thing, not bad.

I'm new to VST's, but one of the first ones I picked up on and use frequently is the Mini Mogue and not just because it's free. It's quite nice and, to my ears anyway, sounds like Moog my buddy had back in the day. He's currently using it, too, since his Mini is long gone. I'm not sure if that helps you, but it works for us.

well this is strange cause i thought that since the prophet V they used dongle protection maybe not for the old edition of minimoog but for the new one i think they are dongle protected so i may be wrong

That's my thinking as well. Afterall, when it comes to the mix, would anyone be able to tell the difference? I sure couldn't.
I like the MiniMonsta for the Melohman features, but for the sound and value MinimogueVA works for me.

I have MinimoogV (duh!), Minimonsta and a Minimoog Model D. In a head to head comparison, both virtual versions can come pretty danged close. The envelopes in both aren't really similar to the real deal...the decay times on the software versions are generally much longer. Of course, my Mini is nigh on thirty years old, so the components are old (it has the upgraded osc board from the late seventies, though).

The actual Minimoog is a special instrument, but let's face it, it has three oscillators, a lowpass filter and a couple of ADR envelopes...not dissimilar to a million softsynths. Some folks absolutely gotta have the sound. Some folks just want the same parameters. It sounds to me like you have already decided that it is the sound that floats yer boat. While it is true that no two Minis sound the same, there is a Moog sound. Taken on its own, most imitations aren't exact, obviously. However, I can't imagine that anyone is ever gonna be able to tell the software versions from the real deal in a mix. Unless the pots are scratchy on the real one...

I dunno. I love my Minimoog. But both virtual versions are very good. No one is ever gonna make a clinically accurate emulation...I doubt that would ever be possible, just 'cause of the quirks in each individual Mini. And even if they did, purists would never admit it...

Which of the software versions do I like best? Well, I like both. I like the fact that my picture is on the back of the Arturia box...

But I also like the Melohman functions of the G-Media version (and Dave Spiers is one of the single coolest guys on the planet and therefore by purchasing his, you might pay for his beer for the month. Week. Afternoon. Whatever...

).

Hell, you can try 'em. Which plays better for you? Buy them both. They cost less than the upkeep on a real one.

i just want to get those buzzy sounds i cant find anywhere else... haha you know anyone heard the band joy electric? thats the kind of sounds i found out he uses minimoog so minimonsta it is, when the money/time comes
