If you're a minimoog bass purist, go with Arturia MinimoogV. THIS is the closest to the real hardware that you're going to get (and even has the late Robert Moog seal of approval).

btw. I'm not sure about Arturia, but MiniMonsta becomes NFR after the first resale (and I know you buy/sell at the market place sometimes). You mention FabFilter, they don't allow selling licenses at all... (It's not the most important thing about a VST, but something to keep in mind anyway).

For a sample based MiniMoog there's EVE 2 and the MiniMoog soundset.

Highly controversial Sylenth1 sounds moogish to me.

The filter is also the most 'analog' i've heard in a vst.

I LOVE MINIMONSTA!!!!

The last computer music issue I read favored Arturia's MiniMoogV better, and I suppose I can see where they're coming from, has a more, I don't know, dry sound?

I don't know....IMHO the Minimoog is alot thicker.

just wait a minute , but not to disrespect the memory of Robert A moog , but for me this is just some advertisement arturia have made on his name as he was sick and in the need of quick money, and i am even wondering if he had some royalties on this product

as far as i know his name (moog ) was a possesion of Norlin Music,so i am sure they asked him afterwards about his opinion but a lot of companies would have refuse this deal indeed who would have needed to buy the voyager made by his own company Big Briar if robert moog himself that the minimmog was a resurection of the past hardware

i think there is something disturbing in this so called dubbing of robert moog on arturia products
the things ain't clean
but i may be wrong

just a minor correction, moog bought back the rights to his "Moog" name a few years back

the question's been asked around here a few times before but honestly, i assume that we'll never know the details because stuff like that tends to stay under wraps... also, when he was promoting the voyager and he realised that that could have affected it's sales, he did another small column in Keyboard about the differences between the sounds of a true analogue synth and that of the very best software emulations (not directed at anyone in perticular). (to the best of my crappy memory, this did NOT appear in the special Moog issue of keyboard [which contained reviews of Moog Modular V and the Voyager and had Bob Moog on the cover] but in a later issue. don't remember which one it was though)

Actually...If you are referring to the vintage vs. virtual feature, I wrote that one, and I found both virtual versions to be pretty much on a par with each other. Each had its plusses and minuses. It really depends on what you are after. I found that, compared to my particular Minimoog, Arturia came closest with the upper frequencies, while Minimonsta fared better at the lower end of the spectrum. Both were brighter than my Model D. Now, side by side with a different Model D, the results might not be the same. Minimonsta is overall a better and more flexible instrument and comes damned close to the real thing, though MinimoogV exhibited the same kind of overall wooliness (sorry, can't think of a better term to describe it) that my Model D has. It'd be very difficult to choose between the two virtual versions. Sounds wishy washy, but they both kick ass.
