Get Your Ya-Ya's out(of the mix)

Over the years, compositions posted to the monthly KVR contest with thier lofty vocalizations have dominated. Well, it's time to put that dominance to an end,(or at least give it a try). This months theme is to create a musical piece that has NO vocal parts(s). That's right...NO VOX ALLOWED. That includes samples, vocorders, guitar talk boxes, facsimiles, reproductions, ect., ect.

You may use any musical genere, and any musical device at your disposal (except Vox of course)

1 - Submissions MUST follow these rules:

(a) encoded in either .mp3 (128kbps or lower if fixed rate ... average of 128kbps or lower if VBR) or .ogg format (quality level 4.00 or lower)

(b) A STRICT MAXIMUM of TWO MINUTES in length. If it shows up as 2:01 in my player, then I'll allow it for reasons of rounding in different players. But you shouldn't take that chance! Any longer gets a DISQUALIFICATION. That said, if a submitted track is over length, all contestants should feel free to mock the offending entrant mercilessly into getting permission to enter a new version of correct length.

(c) entered into the contest by posting a DIRECT LINK in this RULES & SUBMISSIONS thread (use the GOSSIP thread for everything else)
If you cant provide a direct link, please contact one of the following people listed below, they will be happy to help you out.
(These people provide free hosting for the purpose of this contest only! They are not a hosting service. When contacting these people, please take the effort to understand the terms and conditions they provide).

Providers:
1 - slartibartfast
2 - kovacs
3 - xander
4 - _niko_
5 - knockman
6 - scoops
7 - watto

(d) submitted before 11:59 PM Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

2 - Your track SHOULD also ...

(a) be composed specifically for this contest

(b) be created using at least some audio plugins, virtual synths, or software studio

(c) have the FILE named in a format of "yearmonth_artistname_tracktitle" (ie - "06_10_artistname_tracktitle.mp3") or something similar bearing this info.

(d) have AT LEAST the REAL artist and title fields of the file's ID tag completed (help us out, okay? it's easier to sift through labelled entries)

3 - Only one entry per person - no resubmissions without permission from the moderator, INCLUDING for time-overage correction. PM me for permission!

4 - Any tracks not adhering to these guidelines will be very naughty indeed. Possibly disqualified upon peer review. And at least mocked for all to point and giggle.

5 - Voting (members must have at least 20 posts to vote ... although contest entrants are exempt from this ruling) will run from the submission deadline until 11:59 PM Tuesday, October 31st - anyone voting for themselves will find ALL their votes disqualified - any entrants not voting will also be disqualified

I had so much fun playing with Bram Bos' Lunchbox Battles standalone beat maker, that I decided to make my comp from his and mostly other DC chat entries.

Beats made in Bram Bos' Lunchbox Battles and filtered and distorted with EQ22 also from the Developer's challenge.

Low synth is Anna from Dev Challenge

Piano is Balthor piano from Dev Challenge, reverbed with Ariesverb

'Ping' guitar is me on my strat through frohmage then bionic delay then ariesverb

Lead guitar is me on my strat through Amplitube LE, then Hexaline delay then Bionic Delay.

higher synth line is Arppe 2600 VA through bionic delay

Bass guitar is my P-bass knock-off through mackie minicomp then boogex with an eden cab simulation.

Whole thing is squashed with Final Mix.

Tracked and mixed in Tracktion this evening (except for the beats - I brought in the exported .wav from Lunchbox Battles)

NoVox

I need to learn how to use a sidechain compressor in Tracktion - I'm disappointed with the kick/bass synth/bass guitar muddiness.

abstract noise-rich electronics:

The Stroop Effect

"In psychology, the Stroop effect as a demonstration of interference in the reaction time of a task. When a word such as blue, green, red, etc. is printed in a color differing from the color expressed by the word's semantic meaning (e.g. the word "red" printed in blue ink), a delay occurs in the processing of the word's color, leading to slower test reaction times and an increase in mistakes. The effect is named after its discoverer, John Ridley Stroop, and was first noted in an article Studies of interference in serial verbal reactions published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology in 1935." - Wikipedia

It is DC mania so i spent some time testing out all the new toys from the kick ass developers here in KVR :hail:

With the exception of EVOL synth, Blockfish (for the master) and a few Live effects, all plugs utilized for the making of this song are from the DC challenge.
The list of plugs used worked best without hiking up Live's CPU or crashing. Although i still had to render everything.
Here's the list:

Anna
Superrubbish
Rave n Bass
Sane FM
Pondular
MST VS 1000R
BuzzRizerFree
EQ22
Choralozoide
PushTec
Cubix

Now to play some more with these toys and vote!

This Track is Called Solice.

It is created using mainly Komplete 3... with some other VSTs thrown in. This was a real challenge because I normally write 7 to 8 minute tracks and put a lot of Fills and Accents in my track.... Hope y'all like it :D

No vox? :uhuhuh: No human vox!

So it was time for some Psychedelic Dog Trash. In case you are not very familiar with it, it might be helpful to know that DOG TRASH in general does not tend to be on the quiet side. Dogs do like it loud and (instrumentally) crowded, if not to say: a bit rough. In other words: a good mix is wasted on them :hihi:. So be prepared, it is not music for a quiet Sunday afternoon. However, Charlie, my neighbour's Collie, claims that it's a catchy tune. Judge for yourself, and join the pack, 'cause it's the

Night of the Hunt

Lyrics
(imperfectly translated from "Dog" to English by myself):

The Moon has come
We'll meet under the Elm tree
Are you ready?
Let's RUN

We are so many
So many dogs
The Night is Ours
Join the PACK! 'cause it's

The NIGHT OF THE HUNT
The NIGHT OF THE HUNT

Dark Forest around us
And the Moon above
Beware of the DOGS
Our time has come

(Lookout for the cow, stupid!)

It's great to be a dog
It's great to be a dog
It's great to be a dog
It's great to be a dog

Feel the warm air
And watch the MOON
Come with us
Join the PACK!

and

Emiri

yes we have no yayas! this track was made with my newborn daughter emiri either sleeping in the studio, or snuggled about me in a sling as i mixed it, so i dedicate it to her.

i used paaxpro, sfz, and ds-404 with wavs, soundfonts or 404 patches (the trombone) and ran them through various assemblages of the discoDSP effects pack that i was fortunate enough to win here some moons ago. also used were glaceverb and kjaerhus classic delay. all held together by eXT.

sorry for the fade out
