FL user, thinking about eXT

Basically, what you do you think are the advantages of eXT vs. FL6, if any?
I noticed that the program is very quick loading, which I like.
Are there things that FL does that ext simply can't do?
Vise versa?

first, off, shame on you for stirring up stuff on kvr, we all know its wrong.
hehe
no really...
i ahve also considered eXT as well, but havent looked into it too much yet. I would rate eXts piano roll still second to FLs tho.
I wonder about how time sigs and such work in ext.

What kind of things do you use XT for in fruity as I use fruity and have no idea what you can do with XT?normal wrote:i use both , together ...

another vote for both together...eXT is an awesome deal, an awesome host and it works gret in FL...really a no brainer on this one...

Hmm.
But, what advantages do you have when using eXT within FL? I mean, are there things that I can do with it within FL that are useful?

classic sidechain compression,
a simpler flexible routing of audio (L or R channel of a given stream.
At this point, FL could probably do most things most might use XT for in FL, but XT provides a much more efficient, "cleaner" way of achieving the same results.
err...what they said

The modularity of XT is what is appealing. It can work well within ANY host. Speaking of FX chains, one cool example of a modular connection that can be done with XT as an effect within FL:graysonmillar wrote:Hmm.

Get an audio switcher (like SOMA'S) and connect any synth(s) to multiple instances of it. Now run the output from each switcher to a different effect(s) and change between each Audio Swithcer output with your MIDI controller (assign each switcher to it's own MIDI CC/note).
Using TROLLO, you can use your QWERTY keys to switch between outputs.
Record the "switching" of outputs within a sequencer comp and you can go off with wild ideas.
This is but one small example of what can be done with XT as an effect module within a host.
And i can say XT's piano roll could give FLs a run for it's money.
FL's piano roll is nice and of course is eye candy, but learn XT's key shortcuts and you'll be styling.

hehe, having tried both, i would say FLs piano roll is MUCH more than eye candy (actually its really not that pretty ... dunno where you get that idea from), and personally, thinks it blows most hosts out the water, perhaps coming close to killing ext's as well.

I said "it is nice and of course it's eye candy". I did not say it is JUST eye candy.Jason Brian Merrill wrote:hehe, having tried both, i would say FLs piano roll is MUCH more than eye candy (actually its really not that pretty ... dunno where you get that idea from), and personally, thinks it blows most hosts out the water, perhaps coming close to killing ext's as well.

Advantages of eXT:-
. Midi files are exported properly, ie no program change msgs, etc added..FL does this automatically
. In FL you have 'patterns' that must be separated on to different tracks in the playlist, in eXT you can many different patterns (called midi parts in eXT) one after the other on a single track - This is a huge advantage, when composing complex lines
. You can use FLS inside eXT
. Modularity, as stated earlier on
Advantages of FL:-
. Easier to program drum loops
. FL is quicker to make simple tracks with
. FL comes with loads of high quality plugs
There's so much more, but it would take ages to say - try the demo & decide 4 yourself! Personally, I never regretted getting eXT, it's the best piece of software I've bought and definately the best in terms of VFM

this is prettty cool, and yes, one thing that is annoying is that FL cant just export to midi file from the piano roll. Would be nice...flippya2000 wrote:Advantages of eXT:-

FL has both systems now.flippya2000 wrote: . In FL you have 'patterns' that must be separated on to different tracks in the playlist, in eXT you can many different patterns (called midi parts in eXT) one after the other on a single track - This is a huge advantage, when composing complex lines
EDIT: not to mention that pattern based editing, stuck to one pattern per track, actually can be much more useful to some ppls workflows. I know that even tho with the latest beta I can do both, i still prefer pattern based any day, except for the fact that in the playlist, you can't really visually set up different time signatures at all. I am not sure about eXt in this way. There are workarounds in FL, but they arent very elegant at all.
vice versa as wellflippya2000 wrote: . You can use FLS inside eXT![]()

Really? I have FLS608 installed, can I work this way? (ie, non pattern based method)Jason Brian Merrill wrote: FL has both systems now.

RE: TimeSignature changing - You can change time signatures within eXT easily and throughout the song, I've never had to, but just tried it now and it seems to be working great!
