i think the log file is generated after the host app has been shut down..this may help...maybe

I deleted the directory so don't have the .log file, but I did have a look at it. It basically was saying things are successful up to the line where it loaded skin data .. and then that was it. This was using Minihost. Minihost also mentioned that it was a VST file, so would not let me load it.
Using energyXT, as soon as I added it, energyXT just vanishes. No .log file.
I really don't like the fact I had to copy the zlib and png .dll files to either my host directory or one of my Windows directories listed in PATH. I don't like having a registry entry either, as I usually just zip .dll files up after installing, so I don't have to install in future (preferred way to work for me).
I hope you find the problem. I haven't really experimented with scanned synthesis, so I don't really know whether I'm keen for this plugin or not, but I always like to try new ones regardless, to see what I think.

When I skinned Scannedsynth it needed both libpng13.dll and zlib1.dll. I downloaded and put both libraries in the scanned synth directory. That worked for me. (While using Tracktion, I don't know about other hosts).

The installer puts them in the windows system folder, not in scanned synth's. I read someone was bothered that the dll's should go in the windows system dir but appearently they don't need to. (I should have quoted that post, that would have been clearer)

Hello everyone. While this forum is starting to look a bit like scanned synth armageddon, I think I can see what is causing all of these errors. All hosts seem to return different path formats when the plugin requests the path it is installed into, while some don't return anything at all. I just need to make it cope with more alternatives and get the value from the registry if all else fails. Should take me a couple of days to fix.

I really like the way this Synth sounds, but the GUI's doing the same "PNG failed to load" thing in Live 5.0.3 and Reaper 1.22.
