Thanks,

You guys are hard to understand! :) First you place a too long reverb, then I get some extremelly short reflections...

Anyway, I've processed the file, but couldn't take out the really really first miliseconds.

This is the long reverb algorithm making his effort to tame short reverb. Not bad, but not enough, I think. I'll work on the algo.

Thanks

Hey, thats my recording situation thus far. If you could get it to sound like I was closer to the mic, then you would have a happy customer.

Arrrg I hate Rapidshare. I made the mistake of downloading the example file from there. Now when I try to download the actuall algo file I get the bloody "You have reached the download-limit for free-users. Want to download more?" message.. PLEASE USE Sendspace instead!

BTW you know that you can reach pretty much the same effect by taking a snapshot/fingerprint of the reverb portion of audio in most noise reduction plugins (I use the built in one in Adobe Audition 1.5/2).. Then select the whole file and apply the desired amount of reduction, release, smoothness, precision and masking..

Is possible that Audition make the same... but you need to pay a high price for it.

But this would work in realtime :D

I have an insteresting file to upload.

If I wanted to strip reverb off a track I suspect I would be most interested in doing that as an offline process and getting the best result possible, rather than doing it in realtime - I'm not sure what the application for that would be?

Well, what's keeping you??

For those who are questioning the reason behind having such a plugin, the area where engineers deal with reverberation problems is in post production.
Recordings made in non-adequate (but natural) spaces are to be considered when testing this plug.

And those recordings suffer from early reflections: an area of which the O.P. says it's still not quite working well (as far as I've understood)

So, here's the file I was talking.

About early reflections: those seem to be the hardest part to tame. I believe the size of the FFT has a something to say about it, has I had better results with an extremelly small size of FFT. It seems that the small "time" variance of the FFT and early reflection contribute to a better ER reverb removal. Also, many times the ER are strongest than the direct signal, and my algorithm isn't dealing with that already.

Anyway, my algorithm is clearly optimized for medium sized reverbs, with small ER and bigger tails.

Here's a good example. It's applied to a complete track. Portions of the track could be optimized of course. Her voice could be improved manually, with a dynamic reduction of the algorithm when she says "shhhhhh".

Hope you enjoy three years of work on the algorithm:

Would like to try a random track provided by anyone.

Also, if someone is interested on the algorithm and would like to produce it commercially, send me a private message.

Thanks for listening

hrm. is there a way one could sample / build an IR for a space (say a room with wet-plaster walls 10' x 15' and wood floor) and then 'deconvolve' based on the IR it's fed?

the theory being the recording happens in the space inherits the IR and the 'deconvolution' strips the IR bit out of the processed signal?

or is that already what convolution does? i dont know much about it. i think this de-reverb thing is a great idea and if it works on vocals recorded in a room like i mentioned, it'd be a life saver. mono signal vocal, with lots of natural verb from the bad room.

hrm. i never considered it 'noise' but this may be what i'm looking for... i dont mind non-realtime either, i just dont have the luxury of a good recording space.

i'm not gonna hang blankets and all that yet, though i should. i've considered taking my notebook to a good space to record vocals, but that's a pain and i'm lazy ;)

BTW what kind of acoustic, your bedroom ?

- would you have good a sample to share here for de-reverberation, even a sneeze or something... maybe ?

:P :P :P

indeed, sarcasm from a toilet romm "musician" U know ?
