I play bass and a bit of guitar. I like FL because of its toy-interface, although the colors and the playlist do get on my nerves sometimes.

Yeah right! But it doesn't play the audio file from the middle, just the VSTis... right?grymmjack wrote:wait when you say 'start in the middle' you mean start playback? that should be a matter of positioning the playhead in the playlist to the middle point and clicking play yea?xander wrote:Trying to do it now -- just have to figure out how. I've always wondered why some wav files you can play from any point and they stop when you press 'stop', and others you can't and can only start from the beginning and they just keep playing til you hit 'stop' twice. Is it something to do with having been 'sliced' or 'slice-marked' or something?

I record guitar and vocals and it's so easy in FL. Using automation clips makes comping several takes a breeze too.
I agree that FL has a toy-like feel - but for me that's a huge positive - there's so many toys inside it that it encourages you to play which for me is usually very inspirational.

Answering the initial post, well, a toy is something to play with, and for me music is like a game, is something to enjoy, maybe that's why I've actually finished about 100 songs all written from start to end in FL. And anyway, after all, in English we use the same word "play" for both using toys and using instruments, so yes music is playing for me and I'm proud of it, so if FL's a toy, perfect!

Well said! If you're not having fun making/playing music, you've strayed from why you started it in the first place.origami wrote:Answering the initial post, well, a toy is something to play with, and for me music is like a game, is something to enjoy, maybe that's why I've actually finished about 100 songs all written from start to end in FL. that's like, the difference between an audio track, and an instrument?I've always wondered why some wav files you can play from any point and they stop when you press 'stop', and others you can't and can only start from the beginning and they just keep playing til you hit 'stop' twice.

I can play the piano, and also a bit of guitar, violin and oboe, but I rarely record playing in realtime on the keyboard because my style of music is more suited to using a mouse - though I think FL would be fine for that if I did

sometimes a sampler channel will play to the end of the sample when using a keyboard, and other times will have instant release and I'm not sure either what determines that - not that it bothers me, I just enable the envelope when necessarytony tony chopper wrote:that's like, the difference between an audio track, and an instrument?I've always wondered why some wav files you can play from any point and they stop when you press 'stop', and others you can't and can only start from the beginning and they just keep playing til you hit 'stop' twice.

I play my vocal chords, the piano since the age of 5, the guitar, bass, some drums (I don't completely suck that is) and of course various synthesizers.
Additionally I do have some experience playing the accordeon.
Cheers!

Im pretty sure its loop points that determine whether or not a sample will be like a "one shot" and play all the way through, or stop when playback or piano roll data stops...Jbravo wrote:sometimes a sampler channel will play to the end of the sample when using a keyboard, and other times will have instant release and I'm not sure either what determines that - not that it bothers me, I just enable the envelope when necessarytony tony chopper wrote:that's like, the difference between an audio track, and an instrument?I've always wondered why some wav files you can play from any point and they stop when you press 'stop', and others you can't and can only start from the beginning and they just keep playing til you hit 'stop' twice.
<edit> meaning that if a sample has no loop points it will play through, if it does, it will not.

you wrote it yourself: the envelopeI'm not sure either what determines that
if there's no envelope, there's no (envelope) release
