My votes are in. My top four was really easy for me to pick, since there are four things I know I will be using an awful lot (I already have in just the short time they've been out). The fifth place was the hardest choice, since there are at least four things I could put in there. I'm sure I'll end up changing it before months end.

RE: graphic glitches with SM plugs - the controls steal focus from the plugin window, causing the window title bar to flash in energyXT.

The other "glitches" turned out to be CPU-maxing related, I was testing it in a fullish project- I'm sorry.

The graphic controls look incredibly cool, and Anna displays a pretty hefty variety of them.

I'm really loving Cubix at the moment, superb implementation, great GUI design and FUN <3

I still have so many to test.

Oh yes, Sir! The clicks are gone! Anna has a very rich and some kind of mysterious sound. I love it!!!

Thanks! Good that someone else besides me have tested the update too :) There REALLY was no time to try to resurrect my beta testers for this update :)

Did you kill them all so they wouldn't spill the beans? :o :-o

:hihi:
No really, anna is sounding (and looking) gorgeous, it's one of my faves ;)
The mind boggles.

It should just fit a 1024x768 display, and I designed it at 1280x1024. Quite simply, even with video as part of the main board of a computer, one should be able to run at at least that resolution these days. And really to do the GUI I did I couldn't fit it any smaller and have it look as detailed (it'd be horribly pixelated otherwise.

I'm surprised you saw it as digital sounding though? The filter feedback loop is a bit uncharacteristic for what it theoretically should do, and maybe that's what's going on, but I tried to make things a bit less clinical sounding with the Vyn. One thing you may notice is that even using the A440 tone generator, you'll be ridiculously hard-pressed to get it in perfect tune just from it drifting.

But in an effort to stir the pot and get more views for my product, I'd like to propose something.

I'd argue that my synth can make the biggest, 'phattest', grungiest bass right out of the box, moreso than any other synth in this competition.

;)

----Hmm, well, I have a 17" monitor and 1280x1024 is about impossible to really use, you might consider going with a more standard 1024x768 in the future, at least until we all have 31' plasma widescreens :hihi:
----To be fair I guess, I didn't pay all that much attention to the overall tuning, I checked out the presets, all 3 banks, and then hit random a dozen times to see what else it could come up with. The tone overall is very much on the digital side of the fence if you ask me. But again, combining digital and analogue is not necessarily a bad thing. If anything, other than the slightly too large GUI size, I'd say you need better presets to show it off more, basically, I'd suggest going with what it's good at, digital sounds and sound effects. There's nothing wrong with trying new approaches to old things, but it seems like you are maybe not hearing so much as seeing/feeling the synth you've made. It's a solid synth, nothing spectacular to me, but it's worth a listen, and I just wanted to point out what I felt were it's strong point. Good luck in the competition :)

Jeff
I use a 19" CRT, and 1280x1024 is very cozy, even with my poor eyesight. But each his own, I thank you again for the kind words and the constructive criticisms. :) Surely though this is not the biggest GUI you've seen, I've looked at the VirSyn Tera, Arturias CS-80V, and it is comparable in size. Perhaps because the controls themselves are large within the arrangement?

But anyways, seems like I'm gonna have to look forward to next years comp at this point anyways.... ;)

Hey, I kind enjoy playing around with it! I agree about the size comments (my laptop's screen is nothing like a 21" monitor, and a lot of people use laptops for making their music) but the sound has a pleasing kind of bite to it. :)

We made the exact same mistake on our first synth release BizuneVST, although it wasn't too bad because only the keyboard got cut off.
Designed the whole thing on a massive screen. You will be getting emails for the rest of your life about it, trust me.
Paged panels are the only answer to fitting all the controls in.
We fit twice as many controls on our second synth Mantragora in about half the space.

I haven't read the whole previous pages, but this thread seems to be the place to say which one we liek or not...
I had some time this afternoon to test some of them, well, here are some impressions :
I'm really glad to see that most of theplugins were pshing a bit ahead the limits of what is already available in the vst world, bringing new ideas, or trying to go deeper in what is already here : so congratulations to everyone !
On the other side, i noticed that the features was a lot more important that the cpu use ;) Of course, the features are very important -more important than cpu use-, but when i had loaded 3 plugins, i was already at 40% cpu use which is a bit a lot...
I guess this is a competition, a showcase of the way you can develop new ideas in vst format, so i guess cpu is not the most important and can be improved later.

- I found that Majken's Grizzly was a really good stuff,
- I liked the sound of the Filterbank Rezon8 plugin (one of the first convincinig one i ever found),
- I'm all excited about a video player plugin (even if i have no mpeg1 video on my HD and didn't had time to re-encode...)
- I haven't tried the standalone applications, but they seem very exciting ,
- And i like the GUI improvement's Psychic Modulation has done to his graphic line... I hope his plugins will benefit of those little graphic improvements. (But i couldn't yet make something personnal with Cubik, so i can't tell about it).
- THe realtime sampler from Betabug audio is a really cool idea, but the limitation to 1 bar is a bit disappointing (at least to my use, even the existing plugin from devine machine that record 2 bars was a bit short for my use)...

This DC is fine, and very exciting !!

So far for me Anna, Triple Cheese, Reson8 are definately on my list of votes. Anna is simply fantastic, and Triple Cheese is SOOOOOO heavy for sound and manouverable and simple but versatile and massive at the same time and CPU friendly, and Reson8 (despite limited testing) is so tweakable, CPU friendly and from here be my go-to such plugin for sure.
Fantastic Stuff all round.

----I grabbed the updated MST CS-1000R, no *bugs* that I noticed, and it sounds great, there's just no getting around the high cpu usage I guess. It really sounds nice though, reminds me of equal parts old Korg and old Roland, with a little Yamaha DX in there too. Top stuff :)
----I still think Mini-Vyn sounds very "digital", but not in a bad way, it's a good mixture of analog-digital. Easy to program, low cpu, it's got a good chance to place respectably in the competition. Besides, the sound Fx alone should make it attractive to the FSU/sci-fi crowd here on K-v-R :hihi:

btw does anybody knows how to make uLoop to work? it looks intersting...
Some more favorites:
Rezon8
Zombie Fungus
Fire
Repeatler - works great in AudioMulch, doesn't work well here in eXT (the sound crackles)
Buzzrider
Pushtec
EQ22

& off course the Bram Bos one is big fun :D

btw still didn't sucseed in getting uLoop to work :(

Meh, it's all good. I'm kinda seeing that, at least with the regular posting crowd, indeed no one really wants or needs another subtractive analog. So I hope I do good, but I don't really expect much at this point (I see better odds at the random-name prize drawings :hihi: ) I can't help but feel that things are going to the known names here. It's not like it's horribly unfair if that's so, I guess, it just sucks for the rest of us. If only I had waited and released my theremin plug for this comp... ;)

But I've also got a question: I'm pretty sure the answer is obvious, just by the nature of how the votes will be tallied, but is there any way at least for the devs if no one else to see stats on how the votes are adding up as the comp goes on?

But yeah, look forward to next time. I've got a wicked idea, that may take a year to implement well. Basically, think of vector synthesis, instead of fading sound sources and selecting what sound you hear, actually manipulating part of the synthesis process. 3D audio is another big aspect.

cheers.

Hi,

Thank you very much :D
All credit on the Filter goto Dave Haupt, great and very efficient
( 32 mono filters used ).

Hi,

I really wanted people to be able to tweak a lot of things relevant, glad you like it :)
More options are planned btw after the contest :D

CPU usage was very important for me, I first made it with only 16 monofilters
but decided that 32 would also be possible without too much increase.
I do have a issue that on load the plugin does use some CPU
...is on my fix / improvement list.

Thanks for the comments all,
Also happy no bugs have been reported on mine so far ( phew! ).

Cya!
