Anyone know what will happen to the Steinberg A-1?

Hi folks,

Just curious, I haven't seen the A-1 mentioned anywhere on the description pages for Cubase 4, or on steinberg forums. Anybody got some inside/early info as to whether or not it's being dropped from the synth lineup of Cubase/Nuendo 4???? If it is, break the news to me softly, I love that synth. Might have to discontinue a product too if that happens. :(

Peace 8)

I think I've seen it mentioned they've dropped it.

Maybe they'll be nice and release it as a free standalone... neon and VB-1 are getting long in the tooth...

it's always been tied to cubase afaik.
I think it was mentioned somewhere amid all the rumours that there were licensing problems that kept it out of Cubase 4

Oh, and sorry TOTC.

you're right actually. I only mentioned it cause i used to have one when i collabed with someone they sent it to me, but as i just googled now, i found it was basically hacked and therefore, obviously illegal. Dont have it anymore anyway, but again, not like that would matter, for a number of reasons.

indeed, sorry totc....

hehe, yeah, I don't do too well selling products to the warez kids. lol. Not sure why, they just don't go for it. I tell'em "See that plastic card in your mother's purse, just give me the numbers across the middle and I'll give you the sounds..."

Hmm....well, that's upsetting news.... :( I don't know, I'm seeing alot of great things coming in version 4, but I've gotta say they've made some whacky decisions that really put me off a bit. :? This being 1 of them. I suppose if the licensing was a problem though, nothing we can do. Oh well, I remember reading on the Cubarse forums that you can have both versions 3 and 4 installed and working on the same system...if that's true of Nuendo when it hits, I'll have to do that. Doesn't solve my preset bank problem though. :/ Oh well.

Thanks guys!

Peace

:hihi:

Some people didn't like it....it could be pretty metallic and harsh if you didn't know how to program it properly...but it could do some really nice, original sounds though...especially basses. They left embracer and monologue in there...added the other synths...but I guess they just dropped A-1. :( Oh well. Not the first time they've completely dropped an instrument I liked. (D'cota, Plex, etc.)

Peace

Now before you get all panty-knotted about it, it could be that there was some licence-thing with Waldorf that changed, especially now that Waldorf is back. They've discontinued synths and effects with almost each new version, so this is nothing new. They got a few new synths with Cubase 4 that I assume are probably a few notches beyond this one, or it could be that they've updated the code and turned it into something else. Who knows.

It is a little odd, though, because it is a great synth, and it'd better be compatible still, because I use it liberally!

Totc: I think I heard that the a1 is included on the install DVD for Cubase 4. I think.

I don't think that it's all that big of a deal. The term "fan-boy" is very closely knitted with Cubase, and I'd take a guess that at least 80% of initial sales of Cubase 4 are going to be from people who are upgrading from SX3, and therefore people who already have A-1.

Beyond that, you can easily uninstall SX3 but keep the A-1 .dll, and Cubase 4 will recognize it.

But I do here where you're comming from TotcProduction. I guess that it would be hard to justify creating patches for an unsupported synth.

Might be the perfect time to start thinking of soundbanks for Absynth 4? ;)

Who you callin a fanboy beeyotch! :box:  :P

Yeah, if it's compatible still, I could hold onto the dll...that's what I did with the JX16. It does screw our Pro-Sounds bank though if they don't include it in the product. I'll just have to wait and see after it's officially released. I'll definitely be supporting the new synthesizers though :) They do look tasty. That'll be 1 big ToTc Productions release when I find the time....a collective of banks for all the synthesizers and included effects in Cubase/Nuendo. :hyper:

hehe, Absynth 4....2007, promise. ;)
