I love Collide and Play for the fun factor but at the moment it's not of much value to me functionally largely because it generates it's own sounds and the sounds it makes seem rather limited - now if it was able to output midi so I could use it to drive other synths I would gladly use it as an alternative to a sequencerChris Roberson wrote:You can add at least one to that, I liked C&P. comeon, guys and girls don't you wanna experience the freedom from the step sequencers?, LOL
I guess you don't
I'd be interested in playing with the output waves of that with say cSound or something of the like.

Jack, I think you should be disqualified from voting for having such a weak excuse for not trying the VST entries that don't come as a simple .dll.
Installers are to make things easier, not to mess up your system. And if your intelligence is insulted by that maybe you should rethink buying sliced bread and all that as well, cause you know you could cut that bread yourself...
In your case I could argue you should code your own VST(i) instead of using SE, cause SE clearly insults your intelligence.
/end rant.
p.s. Great work on your plugs Jack, especially like the Motile plug. Don't stop using SE

I think this one in particular also needs a better GUI. The piano is really nice and all but the GUI is so unpleasant to look at. I believe many just don't even try this due to the ugly GUI inmo. Maybe someone out of the very talented GUI designers in KvR step up and design something prettier.duncanparsons wrote:I also like the Balthor Piano - the lack of velocity sensitivity is a pain, so it has limited use.. but it's a great sound!!
With all respect to the developer's work

Hi,JackDark wrote: Anyway, I tried the non-installation ones. Out of all those, to be rudely honest, I wasn't very impressed with most of the entries.
What did you think of my entry?
Feedback is always appreciated

For now (really, just for now):
Coolness #1: Lunchbox. This (with ASIO support, of course...
) will be massive fun on planes, busses and wherever - and not just fun but even highly useful, as you can always abuse the resulting beats.
Wickedness #1: Collide and Play. Would indeed be great if there were more sound shaping options and perhaps a bit better menu structuring.
Bread and Butter #1: Triple Cheese. Of course being one of the few UBs adds to the usefulness, as I just got my Macbook, but even without that bias it's a synth capable of a very wide range of sounds, plus it's dead easy to come up with some useful sounds of your own. CPU useage is low and sound quality is typically U-He (great that is).
But to be fair, I haven't played much with all the others yet. For instance, from the "cool idea factor" POV, the VideoVST might be a true winner for hosts not supporting video syncing. Really an incredible idea.

I agree with JackDark, it's better to avoid installers. I could test some entries with the universal extractor (see the link given by PTV) but there are still problems with triple cheese, it's extracted but we don't know where to put the file in order to make it work.
Or give us installers wich tell us what they do (what files are copied and where they are copied), same for uninstaller, we want to know exactly what is removed by the uninstaller.

Played with the Synths last night, haven't touched the FX yet. Faves so far:
Cubix! The sound reminds me of the Limelite plug that Native Instruments gave away awhile back. Simpler, but freeware and also a VST plugin.
TripleCheese. Best sounding of the synths, and most versitile that I heard. But then what else do you expect from Urs?
Ritual. Really great pure sound.
Matryx is potentially the champ, but I will have to dig into the Help file to see how to Load any VST I want to. Also, when I scanned for plugs my system seized up and I had to reboot. Lunchbox and Collide and Play are not making any sounds. I can't find Audio Prefernces for either. I was looking foreward to testing MiniVyn(really liked Retrosyn), But the Stuffit extractor gave me a dialog box saying the file was corrupt, and then no synth was extracted, only some text files.
I'll play with the FX later in eXT. Really have high hopes for the Video plug. That's a brilliant idea and really useful to me since my version on Sonar is only #3.

Sorry I was so harsh what with my comments and what not. I was sleep deprived and on meds last night.
Long story short yes I hate installers, and I don't think they are necessary in the world of VST. If you share this viewpoint than perhaps you will find this useful:
http://www.martau.com/
That's what I use whenever I absolutely have to install something that I want to use on my computer... like modern games or high-end apps.
Version 2 of TU (from link above) is free.
Good stuff. Plus this too.
Sorry I ruffled anybody's feathers, but that's just what I do.

yeah,i don't like installers especially the messy ones, give us a choice to manual install,or at least tell us what it's about to do.
i've used loads of vst installers which quite often put it in the wrong folder or a folder within a folder, or not as the case may be. oh well.
it took me 2 days to install everything,so i've tried matryx which looks great but deep,it f**ked up when i scanned my vst folder, which most program do,
but recovered gracefully and let me choose the matryx default vst folder again(so i just drag some of my faves in).no probs with the program itself.
lunchbox battles was nice but crashed when i press the boss button and went into the editor,so tried again and had some fun, though i couldn't get the latency very low without crackles,i'll try agin.auto quantize+export wav, midi is great.
collide and play was great,(anyone seen gbloink?)i could see that growing nicely, say it triggered vsts or just more controls would be cool.but i like that one very interesting.than it froze when i tried to close it.and it didn't record any sound,i think i need to do something,i'll try later.
i think that's all i got to do last night, looking forward to checking some more tonight.
i went for the standalones first, and it's a close call but i think matryx scraped in first.but there's loads more to go!
(glad some of you are digging superubbish!
i've only just got into se so i kinda expected the opposite,like;
'you shouldn't allow these bloody ametuers in this 'ere compo!
'
so i was well chuffed.
